All together now (sort of)

Back to Rosario's character sheet

The sinking wreckage of a once proud Montaigne war vessel lies just off the coast of a small island, dubbed smugglers cove long ago by groups of men who no longer frequent its well known shores. Bodies of the dead and dieing float amidst the choppy waves, bloody Montaigne sailors and badly burned pirates seem to dance as the natural denizens of these waters pull and pluck away the tasty bits from below. Upon the sand of the small island's one secluded beach two men stand / sit alone slightly tattered and slighly bloody and yet with strange smiles upon their faces. In the far distance the setting sun betreys the silohet of two escaping ships, one still smoldering still limping along, the smaller of the two watching its rear, a tiny purple dot on the horizon. To the east two great Montaigne Man-O-Wars pursue, though at some distance hovering just at the eastern horizon, the speeding Rothe. The Vendal merchant ship seems nearly aloft upon a sea of wind filling all its sails carrying it light and high, skipping upon the choppy waves. (we can pick up here when we're all ready and have concluded any outstanding issues elsewhere. as usually post indipendant actions you wish to take covertly on your own pages.) Thank You

David surveys the situation and appears satisfied. Once again he turns to Captain Quinnson and says, "Captain, I am glad you bought us a few hours by dumping your cargo. We're going to need it. Head for that beach, if you please. I think we'll need to speak with those men." As they approach the beach, David calls out in Castillian, "Ahoy! We seek Senor Murro. Have you news of him?"
- David (15:25:43/09-24-2002)

"Yes! They went that way -- but first, if you would be so kind as to lend us some assistance, my friend here requires some medical attention."
- Miseri (19:02:14/09-24-2002)

For one moment, David envisions leaving Gabrial in a long boat to dispense medical aid for the men on the island while the Rothe continues after Murro. That is is primary objective. But he did take an oath when he swore himself to Queen Elaine. Part of that oath means helping those in need. These two men are in need. And they might have valuable information. "Captain, we need to resuce these men, then keep running. I'd like to borrow a longboat and someone to help me row. Perhaps the large Inish fellow? Though he still appears to be more dead than alive."
- David (11:26:23/09-25-2002)

"Take him then and those two 'Sidney, Larson ready a longboat!' but damn you hurry, those Warships won't slow in concesion to our humanitarian endeavors." The Rothe loads out a long boat with several men aboard (David, Mertious,....? Sid and Lars) and rows hard towards the small sandy beach, through the floating, slowly bloating carcasses of the dead.
- Kariggi (11:52:35/09-25-2002)

As the longboat approaches the shore, David says, "Hurry up, por favor, senores. We don't have much time to spare." While Sid and Lars turn the boat around, David will help the newcomers into the boat. Once they are settled, he and the others will begin to row for all they are worth. Once a rhythm is established, David says, "Now, senor, what can you tell me of yourselves, and Senor Murro?"
- David (13:19:09/09-25-2002)

Rosario waits at the railing, trying to make out anything the newcomers say regarding Sr. Murro. She'd have gone along, but decided it was better to keep the boat light and leave the space to stronger rowers.

"I am Diego Esteban Beachamp de Valdez, and this is my nephew (well, nephew-to-be, but close enough), Captain L'ren of that ship you see over there. We, ah, came to blows over the question of whether Montaigne should be allowed to buy over Sr Murro's invention. I was asked to ensure Sr Murro's safety, as payment for my passage on the Plum ... and it seems that Captain Karn of the Plum has double-crossed all of us. Of course, if you're after Sr Murro and the Plum, I insist on following ... I feel I owe Captain Karn and his crew a few pointed words."

OOC: Assuming we reach the Rothe without any trouble...

When the longboat reaches the Rothe, David will help Diego and his potential nephew up the ladder and leave the securing of the boat to the ropes for raising to Sid and Lars. Once on board he will introduce Diego and L'ren to the captain and the others. Then he will ask Diego, "Do you know where they are headed? They are almost over the horizon, and the sun is sinking fast."

- David (06:56:25/09-26-2002)

"First Senior I would prefer if you would not call me nefew. I am Captain Paul L'ren of L'Emperuer's war ship Marlin. ( he looks to the sinking wreck and the dying men floating in the water.) In the name of L'Emperuer I will have to comandier this vessel and conscript its crew to pursue the Murderer and Thief, Captain Karn of the Plum and as I see L'Emperuer's justice is not far behind, we will signal for them to follow us as we chase the ship, this noble warrrior has crippled. (he places his hand on Diego's shoulder)
- Kariggi (19:06:57/09-26-2002)

"Si, but you do realise, of course, that once we catch them I will have to organise a mutiny to keep the invention from falling into your Empereur's hands?"
- Miseri (00:00:11/09-27-2002)

Rosario whispers discretely to David, "I did not think that an agent of one crown could 'commandeer and conscript' a vessel and crew from another nation. Asking for the captain's assistance, yes, but...then again," she adds, "this is l'Empereur we're talking about."
- Rosario (00:33:31/09-27-2002)

David asks with interest, "The Plum is crippled? Excellent! Time to get cracking. Captain Quinnson? I suggest we make all speed. Captain L'Ren, as for commandeering this vessel, you'll have to take that up with the good Captain Quinnson. Unless Captain Quinnson wants us to deal with you." He pauses, then shrugs and says, "I'll be honest. We are running from the Montaigne, as well as trying to rescue Senor Murro."
- David (06:41:51/09-27-2002)

Hearing the insolent tone of the Montaigne's voice, Mertious' fist ball up naturally. "Capt'n, say t'e word and t'is lad can be overboard in a second...perhaps leaving him with some driftwood might just slow down the Montaigns." As he whispers to the Captain, O'She makes no attempt to hide the distaste in his eyes. From what little Mertious has interacted with these pompous Montaigns, he has grown to dislike them greatly.
- Mertious O'She (12:39:28/09-27-2002)

"While I realize we all serve our own ends, I am certain that none of us wish Senior Murro's device to remain in the hands of the Gnerish, as for the Plum being crippled it is not. Its large overgunned escort is the ship of which I speak, no the Marlin was well prepared to deal with a ship of the Plum's tonnage, we were not however prepared for the level of treachery obviously orchestrated by the nefarious Gnerish Pirate Captain Pik, whose vast sky blue war ship has slipped upon many unawares sending them to their final rest. In his hands Sr. Murro's device will be made all the more deadly. " Once onboard he explains the same to Capt. Quinnson who is more than a little reluctant to give over command, but with the two great Montaigne war ships pressing down having closed the distance whilst the Rothe rescued Diego and L'ren, it seems possibly the wisest choice. L'ren after all does know the proper signals to keep the two from blowing the Rothe out of the water if its caught up to. Regardless of the commander, which is being ironed out, the Rothe does continue to charge on towards the line of smoke along the horizon. Without the supernatural wind which had carried you this far however the Montaigne appear to be catching up, and while you are not losing the pirates you are not gaining on them either.
- Kariggi (13:03:16/09-27-2002)

As the varius ships all race in the same direction, David barrages Diego and L'ren with questions about the Plum, and the other ship commanded by Pik. How many guns? How many men? Why did Murro go with them? He even mutters, "If we had a way to get them a message, maybe they could engage in the most minor acts that would slow our prey down..."

OOC: Ken, can you now arrange it so we can read what happened in Diego's plot, so he doesn't have to type it out himself? Unless, of course, he wishes to lie about it. ;-)
- David (13:45:46/09-27-2002)

As the stars begin to shine that evening, David also asks both captains if they can tell in what direction all the ships are sailing? "If we know where we're going, maybe we can start formulating a plan for what to do when we get there."
- David (13:50:53/09-27-2002)

I can't resist. David, the sun sets in the *west*, so you could probably have gotten a rough idea of our heading when the sun went down. *G* OTOH, since we players couldn't see it, we're still relying on the GM for the information.
- Rosario (14:39:40/09-27-2002)

OOC: If Diego gives me permission I will open up his story, but thats up to him.

L'ren doesn't know where they are going, but knows that the Gnerish tend to stay out of the main channels searching out those adventurous enough to travel into the west, and are a particular bain of explorers. Capt. Quinnson has agreed to allow L'ren to use the Rothe in exchange for letters of amnesty for him and his crew, but will continue to Captain himself under L'ren's direction (arguing he knows his ship better than anyone) in exchange L'ren has signalled the Man-O-Wars that they are in pursuit of a desperate fellon wanted by L'Emperuer himself. The other ships responded with flags of their own, which of course none of you can interpret. After two days and nights of pursuit you are certain that the large blue vessel will not be able to keep ahead of you, and Quinnson informs you that at this pace you will overtake them by sunset.
- Kariggi (16:43:51/09-27-2002)

OOC: I have to ask: Who/what is this "Gnerish"? If he/it/they are that imfamous, then it's a fair bet we would know something.
- Rosario (17:13:49/09-27-2002)

IC, Rosario will spend the time trying to help, stay out of the way, and/or learn some Avalon. There doesn't seem to be much else to do, besides not-flirt with Gabrial ;-).
- Rosario (17:15:58/09-27-2002)

David smiles grimly and asks if the captain thinks he could close after dark and perhaps take the pirates somewhat unaware.
- David (17:19:51/09-27-2002)

OOC: Regardless of how we close with the pirates, David will form himself a small barricade of water barrels so he can be crouched behind it with his bow. When he tries for a surprise shot on the pirate captain, he wants every edge he can get.
- David (17:23:17/09-27-2002)

(OOC: Sure, go ahead and open up me old adventure file) Diego , after explaining the situation and seeing about getting some medical attention, spends most of his time discussing wedding arrangements with L'ren. He also ensures that he can get his hands on a few gentleman's gloves.
- Miseri (09:31:35/09-28-2002)

"If you wish" says Quinnson "we can close after dark but (he says quietly) those Montaigne beasties would be about on us but I'll play it how you want." As David sets water barrels fore and Rosario pretends not to be flirting with Gabrial whome after discovering her working on her Avalon has offered to help her develope her linguistic skills, Diego explains the events leading him to this day and Mertious works dilligently under Mr.Bgjarzarlithoilson's direction, Drangina_______________and helps David with the water barrels. You can see as the sun sets that only the crippled ship has remained behind "She'll be slow and not much manageable but if she can bring those guns to bear I fear this fine merchant ship will not sustain long. Those Man-O-War might have a better chance at it, but the Gnerish are known for fixing their cannons with alll manner of nasty contrivences, from exploding, grape, and chain shot to heated lead, and flaiming shot umong other more horrific tales I've heard told."

Light of Hope is now open to all, I hope you'll be able to laugh along with me.
- Kariggi (13:17:24/09-28-2002)

Rosario actually was attempting to make an effort to avoid flirting with Gabrial, but when he offered to help her with her Avalon she couldn't think of a reason to turn him down. Personal honesty forced her to admit to herself that she didn't try as hard as she might have, though.

In the course of the conversation, Rosario tries to find out a little more about this enigma of an Inquisitor. Castillians being naturally gregarious with each other, she takes the opportunity to ask him"small talk" type questions about his family and his work.
- Rosario (17:28:58/09-28-2002)

"Well, since she can't maneuver well, keep astern of her and use your cannons. And our bows," David says with a nod to indicate himself and Dragina. "Hopefully we can take prisoners so we can find where the Plum is going next."

That ship is swelling with the dregs of society, and if we close in any meaningfull way we will lose men do not be mistaken in that. Those Man-O-Wars which follow us however are designed for this very form of battle and with the damage to its rigging even its greater size, cannons and crew should not save it. "You are young. There are matters of honor and there are matters of commerce and state. They are different matters and must be resolved in different manners. A duel can only settle a matter between two men, not two countries, or two groups such as these. These pirates have no honor, as they more than proved during the dastardly ambush of my ship. - Kindly GM (11:31:39/10-01-2002)

"Well, supposing we just ask them where the Plum is, then? It doesn't look as if Karn is going to be paying them for their trouble or their burning sails."
- Miseri (20:25:46/10-02-2002)

"Pehaps if vwe loose Karn, but vwe should keep on him while we can, with your continued fine sailing and that of the rest of this crew we have neatly avoided the blue behemothes guns I think vwe should keep it that way as long as possieble."

The large sky blue ship makes no effort to follow and fells few cannonballs at you as you skirt its range, instead it tacks to face the oncomming Montaigne war ships each attempting to flank the great vessel. As you race away the first resounding blasts of great gun fire begin and you see of what the sailors spoke. Jets of orange-green flame following engulfing the oddly colored cannon balls as they blast through the air like fiery angels of death. Chaos erupts on the Montaigne ship first hit, but not so much so as to prevent a retaliatory stike. Soon so soon after they are all lost in the haze of blast fire lights and black powerder smoke and all you can see is the dimly receeding purple Plum fast afloat upon the darkening sea. And so it goes for all of three days untill the first of the large schools of whales is seen about. This seems to shift the course of the Plum far and away in an attempt to stay as far astray of the placid animals as it can in the day. Late in the nights it hides all its lights but Quinnson is bright and finds it each dawn. The whales look restless if you can tell but so say the sailors and to hear them tell theres more than there should be in this one place and then they all change the looks on their face. They point to the water and almost wail as they call to the Bosun "thay aint no whale" then the lookout cries "Leviathan".
- Kindly GM (12:56:29/10-03-2002)

"Really? Where?" Diego has never seen a real, live leviathan before, though he'd heard increasingly exaggerated tales from various sailors in the cantinas of San Cristobal. Dashing to the rail, he peers eagerly into the water for a glimpse of the creature.
- Miseri (23:14:45/10-03-2002)

"A Leviathan?" asks David. "A rare opportunity indeed," he says. He scrambles up the rigging to see the beast, and its entourage of whales. He also keep sone eye on the Plum and its deck.

- Rosario (17:38:58/10-04-2002)

The great water mamal tears thruough the waves creating a dangerous wake of its own as it passes the Rothe headed straight for the Plum which though it seems nearly impossible is putting on speed as well.

Please make perc. checks.

The whales who have been milling about placidly for the last few days now seem more purposefull as they form up behind the great Leviathan in its appartent pursuit of the Plum and then the most awesome sight that has ever crossed your eyes occcures the Leviathan a Whale ten times over bucks down and then up into the air in a great leap the whole of its enormous body passing above the water only to come crashing down with the force of Theus own thunder and then the whales follow dozens of the gigantic beasts dwarved by the immensity of the Leviathan at their head, leap up and dive below the diminishing waves. You hear Mr. Bgjarzarlithoilson cry out "Batten down the hatchez! grab dat line! tie that ovf man!" Captain Quinnson is hollaring out too, but it is to the pilot "Into the wave! Into it now! Now! Turn!"

Anyone with sailing skill can help here with a knotwork roll. After that you can all make ballance checks at a 15 to not be thrown overboard by the oncomming wave.

Hanging off the side of the ship with both arms wrapped around the rail, he looks over at Rosario and spits a long stream of seawater.

"I think we should try that again. In another five or ten years, maybe." Carefully, Diego pulls himself back over the railing, flattens himself against the deck and begins crawling towards the nearest hatch.
- Miseri (17:55:48/10-07-2002)

Rosario find pulling herself back onto the deck of the ship less difficult with the able aid of Gabrial who though wet seems otherwise undaunted by the great wave which has just ripped across the deck of the Rothe leaving the living dangling from rat lines and the dead scattered behind you in the froathing sea. With carefull piloting, the ship has managed to stay afloat but not without having suffered losses in men and goods as in two good cannons went overboard with a number of smaller items. The Captain laughs seeming almost insane as he does so "Well that should help lighten the load a little heh".

The herd of great mammals presses on toward the elusive Plum who continues its odd dodgity pattern of flight from the pursueing beast. For the next twenty minutes or so you watch from where you are pursuing as quickly as seems safe, untill the gigantic Leviathan crashes to a halt just tens of yards from the stern of the fleeing Plum. The stop is so sudden that a number of the other whales following pile up behind it. Blood red and salty is beginning to mix with the blue green waters beneathe and around the gargantuan sea mammal. It turns and tugs its great body ripping its sides bloody on what now appear to be a very complex series of reefs. As it finally thrashes itself loose from the sharp living coral of the reef, you feel yourselves in imminent danger. The largest creature you have ever seen, larger than the largest ships you have ever seen docked, as large as the palaces of Lords and Kings, appears enraged and your small wooden boat is moving in the direction of its venomous stare.

David sees the leviathan free itself from the reef and guesses the captain will want to avoid the creature's wrath. But to follow the Plum, the Rothe will have to head through the same reefs. As the whales came into view, the Ussurian lass all but flew to the railings to gaze at the marvelous beasts. As thought eventually percolated through her fascination, she considered Speaking with them... when Leviathan showed up! Only once before had she ever seen a being so grand, so powerful... in her rapt gaze, she took little note of its actions, until too late, the wave crashing forth... and slamming the petite brunette from her position. She grabbed at the railing, but the worn wood passed inches from her grasp! From his prone position on the deck, Diego cannot see who is or is not still on board, but he can hear the cries of those gone overboard. Grabbing the flailing end of the nearest rope, he tangles it around one ankle in a complicated landsman's knot, the sort which is either untied by the slightest tug or impossible to untie. Praying that it would prove to be a knot of that second order, Diego vaults back over the railing and into sea.

Should I roll something? Um. Well, even if it does get untied, the rope will still be there within reach....
- Miseri (22:55:01/10-08-2002)

David sees Diego leap overboard with a rope tied around his leg and heads over to make sure that the end on board is secure. Then he turns his attention to throwing more ropes over towards the flailing people. OOC: Ken, do you need any rolls for this?
- David (10:02:57/10-09-2002)

I would like a Speak + Wits from Dragina as she flails around for help in the water. I'd like a knotwork from Diego (unskilled is +5 to TN nothing explodes) don't worry the TN I'll assume what you roll to be the strength of the knot less 5. If you roll poorly David can roll as well to strengthen the knot. Oh and the Leviathan is headed towards the ship. You all probably have about 2 rounds before it plows straight into the Rothe killing you all (well or leaving you stranded nearly a week from the nearest land you know of, floating amidst angry whales.)

(OOC: I was going to wait for Dragina's Speak attempt before posting this, but since I'm going to be AFK for much of the day I decided to go ahead and post it now. If anything comes up that Rosario actually feels she can help with she'll pull herself together. In the meantime...)

Watching the rescue efforts, Rosario decides she can help best by staying out of the way. Then a movement catches her eye and she sees the huge beast bearing down on the now very small-seeming ship. Her eyes go wide, and a small squeak escapes her lips.

The Castillian swordswoman has faced duelists and Inquisitors, is willing to risk her life in the cause of protecting Castillo, her people, and her king, but this is out of the realm of her training and experience. She clings to Gabrial, taking comfort in the fact that she will die in the arms of a priest even while some part of her mind yet warns her against calling him "father." "Sancta Theus qui es in Elaethorum sanctificetur nomen tuum adveniat regnum tuum fiat voluntas tua sicut in Elaethorum et in terra..." The words flow together as Rosario murmurs the litanies she learned in childhood, the only Thean she knows, in a soft unwavering voice.
- Rosario (11:36:09/10-14-2002)

Rosario finds some small comfort in the strong arms of the Castillian sailor, she and David have branded as an Inquisitioner. His voice joins with hers in a prayer to Theus, and soon you find the same words being muttered by the muted voices of several dozen sailors of disparate faiths. They mouth them between calls and crys "hold that line" "tie that off, Now! Now!" "Men overboard" "ready those long boats". Diego's dive has taken him into the turmaltous waters breaking the water next to the sinking Inish, the rope about his foot fouling his attempts to completely right himself, but providing a valuable life-line to the quickly moving Rothe. Strange sounds eminate from deep within the Usurran archer just before she disapears beneath the frothing waves.

Diego finesse check at a 15 to grab the drowning Inish then a brawn check at 20 to pull you both out of the drink. If someone decides to lend a hand add their brawn same TN.

Oh mertious you can assist in the finesse roll TN 15 against your finesse and you'll grab him. You can use your brawn to help pull the two of you up.
- Kindly GM (12:13:28/10-14-2002)

OOC: I too have been waiting for Dragina, but since she's gone under, time to roll.

David sees the enormous leviathan bearing down on the Rothe. She has only recently right herself from the first massive wave. He doesn't think she can weather another without substantial loss of life. He draws an arrow and nocks it. The beast is moving along the surface, occasionally dipping its head, other times lifting it slightly. David quickly catches on to the rhythm of it movements. At the animal's speed, he has to lead his target quite a bit. The leviathan's eye, the size of a man, glints in the sun. David has been hearing tales of these majestic monsters since he was a child. The storytellers and bards of Avalon love to sing of them. He feels his heart aching as he draws and takes aim. But the creature is closing on the Rothe's starboard bow. Then at the last moment, David has an inspiration. The bow has a shallower draft than the midships or stern. To anyone watching, David doesn't change his aim. But a skilled archer would notice him raise his arrow tip a tiny fraction, then he lets fly. He prays that by hitting the beast just above its eye, it will 'flinch' down and pass under the Rothe's keel.

Catching the rope handed to him, Mertious pulls himself up the rope, his strength waining. He keeps telling himself not to give up, one pull at a time, arm over arm. The waves pound him in the face as he pulls and pulls. Finally Mertious starts pulling himself out of the water. As soon as he hits the deck, Mertious starts barking orders to the crew. Then finding the captain Mertious points to the reefs, "T'e Plum went a t'at way cap'n, the plum went out t'at way!" Finally out of breath Mertious slumps to the deck thanking St Elmo for letting him live to profane another day. Realizing he's not out of it yet he starts barking orders to the crew from the deck.
- Mertious O'She (16:28:15/10-15-2002)

David's shot does indeed cause the great creature to flinch, and down as he had hoped, under the what now seems tiny vessel that keeps you all afloat amidst the turmoil of the thrashing waters. As the great beast emerges from the water just the other side of th Rothe you hear Mertious crying out to sailors still aloft in the riggin Making his way almost crawling to Captain Quinnson. "Where? There? but that beast just crashed into reefs there are you sure there's an opening, I can't see a thing. Following Mr. O'she's exacting directions the pilot begins to move the Rothe towards what appear open if bloody seas, but he and you all know that deadly reefs lurk just below the surface, awaiting the unwary. Gabrial gives Rosario a look deep into her soul and in that instant the fear is gone the trembling is gone and then your mouths move toward each other the warmth of his breath his skin so close, "the fore mast the fore mast! swing it swing it now now!" and that quickly Gabrial is aloft amung the rat lines swinging the foresail a-starboard. Straining against the bucking sea, against the billowing winds which have seemed again to arise. Surrounded as it were by a herd of whales dozens at the least all turning on the tiny Rothe. One member of your fated expedition already lost beneath the cold and bloody waters.
- Kindly GM (18:25:47/10-16-2002)

Shivering in the cold water, it occurs to Diego's chill-clouded brain that perhaps this is not the best place in the world to be, especially if the ship seems intent on heading out into bloody waters. Grasping the rope, he begins pulling himself hand-over hand back up, struggling to keep his balance against the side of the ship. Hopefully someone will have left a gunport open and he wouldn't have to climb all the way back, but that's just wishful thinking.

Rosario gazes back into Gabrial's dark eyes. Sailor, Inquisitor, it's irrelevant; they are a man and a woman, who've narrowly escaped death. She leans into him, lips parted, eyes closing...and then sways as he is called away. The young Castillian takes a deep breath and tries to still her beating heart. He is needed, for the safety of the ship and them all.

She watches him briefly, then looks around for some way to be of use, perhaps helping the doctor. And she tries to remind herself who Gabrial answers to. From his own ... lips -- she shakes herself back to the present again -- he got his orders directly from Verdugo. But for all that he's devout, she doesn't see the fanaticism that too many Inquisitors are plagued with.

Time to worry about that later. For now, she will do what she can, and if she has to face him later over this invention of Sr. Murro's, well, she'll cross that bridge when she comes to it. Theus willing, it won't burn behind her...

Rosario: Rosario has already said a prayer for her departed companion, whom she barely knew.
Kindly GM: you feel the loss of your sole if brief female companion upon this voyage ...and look back upon the two men in the rigging working hand in hand, struggling together to push and pull the Rothe between the deadly reefs, to squeeze it into some tiny invisible opening guided only by the crys and call of a powerfully accented Inish man. No better the barely disernable barking of Mr. Bgjarzarlithoilson as he moves about the rest of the crew to exactly where they need to be from moment to moment, once again you are astonished at the efficiency of this merchant crew
Rosario: Not much *to* do besides watch. I imagine we have few injured; that most either washed over or were realtively unhurt.
Kindly GM: bangs and bruises mostly brushed off by adrenalen at the moment with whales still behind and bloody waters below
Rosario: And services for the lost have to wait, so long as we're still in peril.
Kindly GM: Once you move past the exacting opening which Mr. O'she's sharp eyes have picked out the whale stop chasing though. They submerge with a single angry cry and the sea's seem to fold in on themselves as so much of it is displaced by the diving beast.
Rosario: "Interesting" she says to herself, aloud, but soft.
Kindly GM: It takes the Rothe a couple of days to pick through the reefs, the Plum just in sight but unreachable. At times the two ships nearly pass within cannon range of each other and there is much taunting from aboard its purple decks but never is any shot wasted by either ship
Rosario: Rosario will have checked her blades, to make sure the salt-water dousing didn't damage them.
Rosario: The feathers on her hat, though, never quite fully recover ;-)
Kindly GM: After the first day small chunks of land appear above the water, slowly making the reef more clear, by the end of the second day islands are within sight, and within a few hours of dawn day three (yes) three distinct islands will be reached. When the ships close, David will ask the captain, who no doubt possesses a spyglass, if the civilians they are trying to rescue remain on board the Plum, or if they are in a longboat headed towards the land.
- David (07:11:38/10-18-2002)

"No, no one has disembarked in fact they appear to be sailing the ship right at the island if they don't do something soon they will most likely soon run themself aground, though that may be their intention." The Plum is on course for a small island to the west of one larger island and one about the same small size just to the east of the larger island. All appear sandy rocky and covered in large viscious looking seal type creatures (sea lions). The waters about you contain (probably due to the intense reefs in the area) a wide array of strange and colorful fish all being hungrilly fed upon by the large shark population.
- Kindly GM (17:44:41/10-18-2002)

Instead of stopping short of the shore, or slowing to beach it upon the small island they continue to plow right into the side of the island, screaming howling ringing and blowing horns the whole of the time. The dark side of the island seems to part for the Purple Plum untill it has completely disapeared into the small island side.
- Kindly GM (13:26:39/10-21-2002)

From his perch in the rigging David calls down, "I have no clue why they did that. But it would probably be in our best interest to follow their lead." With that he begins to sing a song in Cymric, which to most ears sounds like noise.
- David (08:30:26/10-24-2002)

Rosario watches from the deck as the Plum disappears into the island. "A hidden cave?" she ponders. Whatever it is, it looks like the Rothe is going to follow, and there will almost certainly be a fight. The swordswoman makes sure she and her blades are ready.
- Rosario (18:00:03/10-24-2002)

Diego stands on the forecastle, leaning forward in anticipation. He is fully prepared -- sword polished and sharpened; lucky underwear freshly laundered; petition made to San Sebastiano, patron of athletes, for an honorable victory; white glove in one pocket, and a spare in another. "Well, senor, this is it," he says to L'ren, rubbing his hands, "as agreed, the first one of us to reach Karn will have to right to the first duel. Although I still think you should let me have at him first; you have a young bride to go back to, and it's bad luck to die before one's wedding."
- Diego Valdez (02:12:18/10-25-2002)

Captain Quinnson is hesitant about sailing his livelyhood into a pirate cave, but given the general consensus of his passengers and the eager urging of Captain L'ren he slowly sails the ship forward toward the dark maw, now obviously man-made in the side of the island. "All hands to the ready, I want those remaining cannons all primed and ready before we enter. Mr. Bgjarzarlithoilson open the arms lockers and issue weapons to the men! Here we go!"
- Kindly GM (10:55:37/10-28-2002)

With that Quinnson directs the Rothe into the blasted opening in the side of the Island. Through a tangle of old sails and seaweed draped convincingly over the entrance and into a most astonighing cavern. Dimly lit by torches and lanterns handing about a makeshift wooden dock set far against the back of the inner island harbor the ceiling seems unatural, like some dark mother of pearl reflecting the occasional flicker of light from below, all the walls appear to be made of the same hard shell like material. Numerous ships are docked within, and the Plum is set just as you enter to release its full broadside directly into the bow of the approaching Rothe.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
- Kindly GM (11:30:57/10-28-2002)

Not having any skills that might be of use against cannon fire, Rosario seeks cover and awaits an opportunity to use the skills she does have.
- Rosario (13:32:25/10-28-2002)

David has been expecting this sort of reception, so he draws back on his bow and scans the deck of the Plum for targets. OOC: GM, if you can list targets and their TNs, I would appreciate it.
- David (13:45:22/10-28-2002)

There are 6 ships already docked inside the island. Three of them including a very large scarlet vessel are casting off. The only individuals you can truly make out are those aboard the Plum which has just unloaded a smoky broadside into the bow of the Rothe. Aboard the Plum and visible are Captain Karn a short scarred twisted little man waving a Musket about and screaming at his crew, his first mate standing by his side, relaying information to him from the spy glass held tight to his right eye, Mr. Black the Plum's bosun moving about the gunnery crews his cruel whip accenting his sharply barked orders. Six twelve pounders have just broken off your bow sprit and blown apart your head (forward lavatory). And those gunnery crews are snapping too the reload. They will most assuredly fire before the Rothe could close to board. The other three ships will likely become viable members of this battle within the next few minutes (depending on your actions about 4 or 5 turns). A last note the scarlette ship has a bunch of torches and lanterns hanging off one side of it and apparently shinning down on the waters surface.

Ok TNs for Karn, Black, his 1rst and crew. Crew TR 2 brutes TN 15, Karn Balance 4 TN 25, Black Balance 3 TN 20, 1rst Balance 3 TN 20 (all currently +5 for the thick smoke) Distance before next shot = 50 yards

- Kindly GM (16:22:27/10-28-2002)

David scans the Plum and realizes they need to disable this vessel quickly. And to do that you need to cut off the head, so to speak. But David knows that Diego and L'ren both want Karn, so he adjusts his aim to the First Mate and his spyglass. The reflection of the brass and glass makes him stand out even through the thick smoke of the cannons. David aims and lets fly.

David's well placed arrow sights right down the first mates spy glass, shattering the lense and leaving the officer's face a bloodied mess. Rosario's shot plows into a group of gunners leaving one of their members dead.

For purposes of initiative and mechanics the Plum fired on round one, as have Rosario and David. (We are still accepting round one actions). On round two the Plum reloads its guns to run out on round three. Capt. Quinnson is trying to turn the Rothe to present its broadside to the Plum (unless he is told to do otherwise , but this will take untill round four, by which time the other ships will be moving into position to engage the Rothe.
- Kindly GM (13:55:20/10-30-2002)

From his prone position on the forecastle deck, where the first shot to the Rothe had landed him, Diego peers through the rail bannisters at the scene within the cave and pulls himself back on his feet. Perhaps he and a few select people could sneak over to the Plum through the smoke on a rowboat? Thinking back, he tries to recall if there might be any weak spots in the Plum's security, where he and a few good men might be able to get in.
- Diego Valdez (18:46:50/10-30-2002)

David smiles to himself at the accuracy of his first shot. Even he had not expected the damage to be inflicted in such a dramatic fashion. But the cannons are going to be more trouble. David spots the bosun wielding his whip at the gunners and decides they don't need the added incentive. Once more he takes aim, glad that as the ships close, his hieght advantage helps him see over the smoke of the guns. David nocks an arrow, then waits for the main to finish inflicting a lash before firing at the man's hand.

As David's arrow strikes the whip from the hand on Mr. Black the Plum's bosun, and Rosario's musket ball plows into the side of the rocking Plum, Diego and a half dozen of the Rothe's sailors load down a long boat on the far side of the Rothe away from the bludgeoning guns of the purple Plum. L'ren insists on joining him adding "Karn is mine Valdez, do not forget that." The Plum has run out its guns for a second surely devastating barage of cannon fire.
