Action, Adventure, Excitement, Part 3 Chapter 15 From: gamer@host.yab.com Date: Mon, 16 Jun 1997 18:22:55 -0700 (MST) Subject: Aae-Entrance, Stage Right! OK, I guess Roland's right about people who want to come along joining in later if need be, so I'll quit waiting to hear from them. Blacky looks over the group, "Allright, you are correct that firssst we will need disssguisssessss. Hisss clothes are fine" gesturing to The Stranger who last I heard was still in MiddleEastern garb, "though I would prefer the facessss covered if we can for the men, and a mussst for the ladiesss.." (OOC: Ok, presumably with THIS group, finding some clothes quickly isn't going to pose TOO bad a problem I hope... ;-) ) Once everyone is dressed, the advance team moves out to Dibis. As the move, Blacky instructs them a bit on how to act. "When we arrive, I will be telling them you are sssimply my assssociatesss. Do not ssspeak to them no matter what. And do not let them look at your facesss. They mussst believe you are assssassssinssss with the guild. No names sssave mine shall be given and anything that could give away your identity musst be hidden, ssspecial jewelry, tattoosss, ssscarsss. Asssasssinsss would not advertissse their comingsss and goingsss, which alssso takesss care of any problemsss if they are already looking for you ssspecifically." "Once we enter the city, we will very likely be followed, or an advance runner will be sssent to watch for usss at the Guild. Ssso we will head directly there. We should not be caught on the ssstreetsss after dawn anywaysss. Under an Alert, they are mossst likely to shoot firsssst. Asss we go down the sstreet, make eye contact with nobody and never look at anyone or anything long enough got them to memorize anything about your face. Asss Guildmassster, I am sssupossed to be known. You are sssupposssed to be sssecret." Finally they arrive at the gates. The walls are about 20 feet tall with men standing watch on the battlements. The medival look is broken up by what appear to eb tripod mounted laser cannons at irregular intervals on the top of the wall. Eight guards stand before a massive steel door apparently just standing in the middle of the road. A faint glimmer is all that can be seen of the forcefield surroundin the city. "Halt. The city is under an alert. No one is allowed to enter or exit. You'll have to move on to the village of Jahl, a mile and a half further east." Blacky's reptillians hand comes out from the sleeve of his robe, holding something in the palm. He shows it quickly to guard, and returns his hand to hiding. "I and my entorage (I know that's probably spelled REALLY wrong. Oh well, I'm an Irishman, not French.) have bussssinessss in the city." The CaoL notices he's laying the hiss on pretty thick right now and it seems to be working to make the Guard nervous. Or was that from what Blacky showed him? "Um, I, uh, undersst... I mean under_stand_ that sir, but I have orders from my..." Blacky interupps, never raising his whisper-quiet voice or speaking any faster, "Do you undersssant what it wassss I showed you?" "Um yes sir but..." "And how would your ssssupervissssor take to the newssss that you denyed accessssss to a Guildmasssster? Expecially, Me." "Uh-I-um-Well-I-" Yes sir, please enter quickly, my commander is at the gate. I'll let you discuss things with him." The metal doors swing inward and the guards step asside to let the group through. A group about twice the size stands before the massive wooden gate to the city. They are armed with swords and halberds like the other group, but there is one man dressed in half-plate half-chainmail who wears a sword on one side, and what appears to be a blaster pistol on his hip. As the group approaches, Blacky whispers, "The sssmall lightning crosssssbow he hasss isss not nearly asss powerful asss the onesss on the walls, but it isss dangerousss none-the-less. Watch him closssely." Once to the gate, two soliders step between teh Caol and the other soldiers, and the commader steps in between adn behind them. "State your business here." Blackyl's hand comes out again and flashes what must be some sort of guild symbol at the commander before disappearing again. "We are on our way back to the guild to take care of sssome ssspecial busssinesssss. What isss the meanign of this delay? It isss near dawn and we mussst be finished by then." The commander looks at Blacky's face under his hood, then attempts to look at everyone else who (I hope) follows Blacky's advice to look away. "There are traitors rising up against Darath. Zag has already been seiged, but if they dare approach Dibis, we will destroy them. But we must make sure only the loyal ener the city. And if you'll pardon, Assassins are questionable anyways in my opinion. I will have to insist on identification on everyone and searching you all before allowign you to enter." Blacky's eyes narrow. "I am the Guildmassster of thisss city. It isss my right to enter and leave asss I wish when I wish. And when I do ssso, I am to be consssidered on Guild Busssinesss. You have no right to interfear with me in that. You do not have the rank, nor the balls." The Commander turns purple with rage and reaches for the pistol, but his hand barely brushes it before it cahnges direction and begins clutching at the small crossbow-bolt in his throat. The Commander gurgles and spits up some blood, and then falls over. The Guards have their swords out when Blacky holds up the medallion with the Assassin's Guild symbol on it for all to see. "Your commander issss dead. Who issss next highesssst in rank?" One of the soldiers croaks out, "I am." "Are you going to deny usss entrance to our Guild assss well then?" The solider fidgets for a few moments, then gulps. "No sir." Turning to an arrowslit next to the gate, "Open it up just enough for them to pass through single file." The Massive wooden gates slowly swing open, and the group takes their first steps into Dibis. The streets are nearly deserted this close to dawn, and most of those that are out seem to be drunk. Or otherwise incapaciated as a syringe is noticed sticking out of the arm of one dwarf in the gutter, the cybernetic part of his face half submerged in questionable-looking water. Blacky makes his way quickly and matter-of-factly. Looking back, they guard decided not to bother with the subtlety of a shadow, and instead have a squad of six soldiers following about twent paces behind the group. Finally they reach a building with a large sign proclaiming it the mercenary's Guild. Slipping down a side alley, Blacky comes to another door. touching a stone in the wall nearby, the door pops open revealing a staircase going down. a torch on a wall nearby lights itself as Blacky picks it up and heads down, the door closing automatically behind the last person and re-latching. In the Guild common area, Blacky places the torch in a holder and it vanishes, presumably back tot he top of the stairs. Stones hanging from the ceiling alluminate the room which could very well be a sitting room in a large castle. plush velvet-lined chairs seem to be everywhere, and the north wall is covered by a huge bookcase. Doors are in the walls to the East and West, and the souht is the stairs. "Make yourselves comfortable. They will wait outside a while to make sure we stay, then return to report shortly after dawn. There are small rooms in which you may sleep. Just go through that door on the east wall. Take any door in that hallway for your room. they are all empty. I am not sure about the rooms in the halls beyond the other two doors, so it is best to let them be. I shall be in my quarters behind that door on the west wall if you need me. there is a pantry and kitchen area through the door next to mine and a small training room through the other." =========================== From: gamer@host.yab.com Date: Mon, 16 Jun 1997 18:24:45 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: AAE3 -- TARDISes, TARDIS Technology and Time Lord Telepathy On Mon, 16 Jun 1997, Michael Jon Knight wrote: > But I don't think any of this will come up again. Knytt^A walks to the door leading to the empty hall of bedrooms. After a few moments, he returns. He stands in the room and pivots on his heel one more time. A small nine square inch patch of hair is cleared away, and a hole drilled in they skull from which a bit of brain tissue is removed and contained. Finally The Controller places a dermal regenerator on the hole in her head and leaves with the samples in hand. Driss and Roscoe follow Cutter and Leetah through the dark dungeons. Here in the lower levels, each door is solid metal, saving the risk of a cry for help from an inmate that might reveal the adventurers. Abruptly, the wolves stop near a corner. Their sending explains everything in two words. /The Controller./ Driss contemplates attack for a moment, but finally logic wins out. Without his Rapier, he might not be able to kill the Controller right away, and even if he did, it would make the inhabitants of the keep rise up before the others were ready for them, getting everyone captured. Instead, he crouched down and instructed the wolves to hide in the cloak. One by one they passed into the blackness of the Cloak of Shadows, into the pocket dimention where Driss's hordes of stuff was stored. Driss wrapped the cloak around himself and faded from view as The Controller passed by briskly, something clutched in his hands. peeking around the corner, Driss could see Morgan's cell was easy to spot. It had to the be one with the Ogre and Orc standing guard in front of it. Calculating quickly, Driss took a tiny step with his seven-league boots, stepping directly into the cell through the walls. He let the Wolves out for a bit in case they wanted to see Morgan, but they seemed to knwo she was fine. Driss was less sure, but knew he couldn't do anything about it at this moment. Still it was a hard thing for him to do to leave her laying there on the table hooked up to god only knows what. He only allowed himself a moment though to tarry. Moving to the table, he bent down to one of Morgan's hands where it was strapped down on the table. Very gently, he kissed it. It felt so cold and lifeless though, it only fueled the fire that he should set ehr free right now. He felt the wolves and Roscoe in his head and looked down to see he had already unstrapped the hand in front of him wihtout even thinking about it. Sighing heavily, he re-did the strap, but keeping it a bit looser than it was before. Loading up the Wolves, they left the cell in search of Driss's Rapier. =========================== Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 18:03:03 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: AAE-Collections On Tue, 17 Jun 1997 18:57:41 -0500, in Message # 00000100 Michael Jon Knight said: At 04:48 PM 6/17/97 -0700, gamer@host.yab.com wrote: > The Controller enters Morgan's cell and checks the moniters, then >hooks up a small black box and downloads all the recorded data. They work much like Fuzzy's plan to bring in the rest of hte team. They cause a tiny dimentional shift that magnifies a full step into seven leagues of distance when activated, taking the wearer into and otu of hte other dimention during the step. Then, since 8 eyes are better than 2 when looking for guards and the armory, he lets the wolves all out of his cloak again. Driss mentally sends what he remembers of the layout of the building through the psi-web via Roscoe highlighting the west wing of hte dungeons where Morgan is being held, and an area in the norht wing where he thinks his rapier might be. They moved as quickly and quietly thoguh the building as they could. The Wolves' special senses detecting guards on patrol and giving them enough time to all be concealed by Driss's cloak again before they are spotted. Finally three flights of stairs and lots of rights and lefts later, Driss spots a window cut into one of the interior walls. On the other side of the opening is a very tired looking man filling out paperwork. An open doorway behind him shows a wall of weapons and various crates and boxes and shelves of items. Driss instructs the wolves to stay put, then vanishes into his cloak. Slipping quietly though the opening, he slides off the counter on the other side and down onto the door. carefully he creeps to the QuarterMaster and reaches into a pouch on his belt. A hand seems to appear, floating in mid-air above and behind the quartermaster as Driss reaches out of his cloak. a fine powder sprinkles down over the QuarterMaster and he sneezes twice, then turns to see where the dust is coming from. His mind barely has time to notice the arm in the air before his mind shuts down and he falls to the desk unconcious. Sneaking into the back, Driss looks around at the armory. His Rapier is laying in a pile of others in the corner forgotten. He runs his hand lovingly across the side of the blade before wiping it off on his cloak and returning it to its scabbard and onto his side. looking at the other goodies, he grabs a couple first aid kits and throws them in his cloak, followed by a Glaive, a couple of blaster pistols and a small cannon with a 2" bore. A 10 lb barrel of powder and a dozen cannon balls finish the looting, and he heads back to the wolves. "Ok," he whispers, " I'm set. If I know Blacky at all, he's at the Assassin's Guild right now, so we'll head there to meet up with everyone." Gathering the wolves in his cloak again, Driss re-activates his boots, taking as large a step as he can north. A wave of vertigo washes over him and he tumbles to the ground in an alleyway. "Oh Boy, I'm glad the saftey spells that push you past solid objects when you step into them were still working. Who knows what would happen to an immortal stuck in a stone wall!" Releasing the Wolves, they made their way through the morning sunlight down alleys adn side-streets, heading towards the Guild. =========================== Date: Thu, 19 Jun 1997 14:48:09 -0700 (PDT) Subject: AAE-Round-3 On Thu, 19 Jun 1997 14:46:42 -0700 (MST), in Message # 00000116 gamer@host.yab.com said: The dawn sun lit up the clearing of the Enchanted Forest as the combatants took to the feild. "Did you enjoy your taste of Death yesterday Theif? I will be glad to serve you another helping." bellowed Darath. Driss simply smiled widely and gave a bow, "Oh great master of nights as dark as the bottom of a privy-hole, I thank you for your grand pomp and narcissism, but you needn't concern yourself with my funeral this day. After all oh lord of shadows like the vacuous space between your ears, I fear that were you to actually have a cognition, the shock of it might prove detrimental to your own health. The massive greatsword sped down to teh Harlequin God's head, which had not moved an inch. But that was Darath's downfall. A massive blast of pure magical energy broadsided him, ripping away armor and flesh alike until there were only three Gods standing on the field. "Darath violated the rules of the challenge battle and therby forfits this fight. The God of Theives is awarded this vicotry." spoke Magi solemnly as he faded from view. Date: Fri, 20 Jun 97 21:05:25 PDT For the last little while Dhyrclhanc had been doing very little; even a cosmicaly-powered, close to 4.5 century-old, unfazable dragon can take only so much. Most of the time he was simply waiting for the rest of the CAoL, especialy those who were (albeit hesitantly, inadvertently and/or unintentionally) the group's leaders, to make up their mind as to what the "Callahanian Army of Light's" next action would be. When Fuzzy had used his own, unique, form of techno-magic (technological magic?) to create the wood-and-gold melee weapons, Dhyrclhanc, still encased in his Fuzzy-christened "space armor", had quietly bathed the weapons in the emerald/jade glow of his Sentinel's-Ring. Roland and "Blackie" and the rest of the CAoL's advance team left. Fuzzy was holding his assault wave, in physical form, in the Astral Plane. John decided he would hold his "Battletech/Spice Addict" Combat Squad well in reserve . After all that, Dhyrclhanc anounced that he would "tag along" with Roland's group, but he'd physically be in hyperspace -- monitoring the activities of "Roland & Co." through the Psi-web and act as a, one-dragon, 1st-tier cavalry if things got too hot for the advance team. Anyone not already included in any of the other crews can be ferried along with Dhyrclhanc; he'll be able provide life-support for them in the hostile hyperspace environment, and (for good measure) he'll create a pocket/fold in hyperspace around him and any of his "passengers" (aka the Vorlon Planet-Killer Fleet) to futz any advanced warning sensors either the Controler (Controlers?) or Gaunt might've placed in hyperspace. /Any of you guys get into any real trouble in Dibis, just give me a mental "holler" and I'll come running! From the doors that lead to the other bedrooms, the first person to rise is an oriental-looking female hobbit who heads to the kitchen for a loaf for bread and a hunk of cheese, then takes it with her to the training-room. A couple of young humans stumble out a few minutes later, only to be greeted with, "Get your lazy butts in here! You can't sleep away the entire night. there is much work to be done!" By the hobbit. They look longingly at the kitchen, but head to the training-room instead. A few thunps can barely be heard, testifying to the soundproofing of the room. Anyone peeking in sees the hobbit training the humans in martial arts, for the most part bouncing them off walls when they mess up. Another hobbit stumbles out of the bedrooms holding his head in his hands. He stumbles into the kitchen, then races out again heading for the privy. Knytt^P picks some of the apples in his tree, then drops to the forest floor as he forages for more food. He does all this silently, as if in a daze. After gathering a few wild carrots and onions and something resembling garlic, Knytt^P's ears pick up a sound in the underbrush. The feral grin Knytt^A had in the Guildhouse as Driss walked in returns. One cleaned rabbit later, Knytt^P gathers some berries and other lighter foods. Knytt^A/P walks into the now empty kitchen/another empty patch of forest. Then, as if he released a taunt rubberband, his body and mind reunite in the Guild kitchen. As his stomach begins rumbling in earnest, the now whole Knytt begins fixing rabbit stew. =========================== Date: Sun, 22 Jun 1997 14:03:57 -0700 (PDT) Subject: AAE: Restless day On Sun, 22 Jun 1997 16:54:12 -0400, in Message # 00000138 Caprice said: Caprice lay down on the small cot, but sleep wouldn't come. Unable to sleep, and unable to let Argent's pain go, Caprice reached out, linking with her doppleganger. "Yeah, a few. Do you know where we are going? How many guards we are facing? Any clues how to get in unnoticed? Will we need disguises? Are we only focusing on Morgan now, or should we be looking for Driss's brothers too? Do fuzzy and the rest of the astral group want in on this?" Does Morgan want to be rescued now? Will the Controller need more time to make his clone of Morgan? We are on Night Three and I know I am chomping at the bit to get things going, but I don't want to wreck the plan either. And I know there are a couple baddies waiting in the wings also. Perhaps after discovering Morgan's clone (if that's the plan) we ought to let some of these other bad guys out of the stables to run a bit while the main plot steps aside (if gamer feels he needs a breather) I must admit, looking back on AAE 1 and 2, that perhaps 12 days is too large a scope for a single storyline. Especially when most of the development *seems* (I could be wrong) to be waiting for the last day or so. Anyway, most of this is speculation on my part. I toss it out as food for thought. =========================== Date: Sun, 22 Jun 1997 15:33:52 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Aae-starts with ACTION! To be honest, folks, I'm not sure which one would be worse!/ said: John wearily drags himself to his feet. He watches the commander pilot the hovertank. 'The man is skilled.' he thinks to himself. He calls up a screen of the surrounding area, which shows a forest going by at high speeds. Rotating the view, he watches the troops weave in and out of the trees, keeping up with the hovertank. "How...?" he asks, not knowing just quite what he's asking. Without turning the commander says, "Grav belt. And their reflexes are much faster than most human types." Soon they come to an area overlooking the city. The tank slows and settles into a copse of trees, hidden from prying eyes. The commander turns to John, "Would you like to inspect the troops?" John is momentarily flustered, "Ummm, ahhh, yes. Yes I would." They get out of the tank and watch as the troops set up camp. John walks along with the commander, trying to at least look like he knows what is going on. Fortunately, the commander keeps up a running momologue, introducing and describing the duties and abilities of various troopers. After a while they finish their tour and John and the commander sit down to eat. John devours the meal, then goes back for more. He apologizes, "Sorry, I always get hungry after extended magic use." Finally he is finished, and the commander asks him what he thinks of the troops. John thinks a moment, then replies, "Well, they seem very disciplined. And ready for almost anything. Whoever trained them is to be commended," the commander smiles at this, but says nothing, "although it is obvious that he had some good material to work with. What arena do your men usually work in?" The commander pauses while he decides what he can safely mention, "Usually we're pulling the General's ass out of whatever mess he's gotten into. Other than that, we work on a mercenary basis with whichever side the General decides is right. In some places we're called the Ghost Legion, in others the Shadow Corps. Those are usually ones we've worked in before though." "Why is that?" "Well, almost every man you see around youis a ghola. Are you familiar...?", John waves him to go on. "If a man falls in battle someone will take a sample for later regrowth." "Some think that the troops are Fremen?" The commander laughs, "Hear that boys? We're a Fremen warband now." There are a few assorted laughs and one 'It won't be the first time.' "No, the eyes only indicate an addiction to melange. the spice can greatly increase lifespan, among other things. Each member is given a choice upon entering, either take the spice and make your own way in the world with only the General's mustering out gift when the trooper gets tired of fighting, or don't take the spice and receive a full pension, enough to live like royalty, when you're done. Most take the spice. Between that and the rejuvenation treatments we got from Tellus Tertius, we have the potential for a _very_ long lifespan." John just sits and digests this for a moment, "The General won't be alarmed or upset that you guys are gone?" Again the commander seems amused, "No, I think that he would judge this a special case. Besides, you could always send us back to just after we left, ne?" "True. Why don't we set out the basic plan then I'll catch some sleep before nightfall." John and the commander talk over their plans, and soon John goes into the tank to sleep some more. The commander turns to the troops, "You lot are lucky he's been so tired that he never noticed the way you keep glancing at him. What are you trying to do? Make him suspicious? You'll get plenty of chances to see him later, without all of you trying to look at once. And if I catch another covert glance, that trooper will be digging latrines and _then_, seeing as how we don't need latrines, filling them back in. Do I make myself clear?" He glares at them all for a moment, then smiles, "Besides, I've been recording his every action, so you'll be able to see anything you miss." =========================== Date: Sun, 22 Jun 1997 23:19:00 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Aae:Plans On Sun, 22 Jun 1997 23:08:36 -0700 (PDT), in Message # 00000154 "P.
