The smells of rot adn death and dust flood his nostrils. The warm steel bars, and the strange lights and sounds, and the metal golems. And Miles, he's never seen Miles so meak. Who knows they're there? who can help them? Diswan is coming closer each day, closer. His touch... Matt awkaes to see a kitten looking at him and screams. scrambling out of bed he wraps a sheet around his naked body while trying to figure out where he is as an equally frightened kitten goes running for mommy. Locating his clothes, Matt grabs his harp as a gnetle presense enters his mind. [Be at peace. you are among freinds.] As Matt watches, from seemingly nowhere grows a wolf sitting in the corner of the room. [I am Roscoe, a freind of Driscoll's. He asked us to come and find you and Miles. He wanted to come himself as well, but... things happened.] "Now I know you're not what you seem. Driss never cared for family before, why bother to now?" Matt's fingers fly across the harpstrings, and though it's out of tune due to sitting for so long, he tune that comes out is still beautiful, and the hoarse crackly voice is still full of magic. "Hide not yourself Or lie to me Show yourself, Let me see. Truth be pulled from fantasy let us now Know reality" The truth song works its magic and Roscoe is forces to shift into his natural form of a short hairy man. [I already told you the truth. You know your spell worked and I would not be able to send this to you if it were a lie. Driscoll hired us to save you.] Confusion sets in on Matt's face. "How'd he find out where we were? or that we were even gone? I haven't seen my Brother for nearly 15 years. Why would he suddenly give a damn now? Was he tehre when Father was hung for Driss's crimes? No. Was he there for my graduation from the academy? or even one of my performances? no. Or when Miles was given his knighthood? Or..." [You ask things that Ic an only guess at, things that only Driss could truthfully answer. But I have known Driss for far longer than you would imagine or believe, adn I can tell you he has often thought of you all, and felt guilt over how he's neglected his family. You were taken by an enemy trying to strike at Driss through you. And it worked. He has a hard time showing it, but he still has deep emotional ties for what remain of his family, and I have seen him standing over his father's grave, trying to stay mad at him but all the time tears of grief flowign down his face. You should know by now, Driss shows a false front to everyone. Expecially those he cares the most about.] Matt plops down on the bed again, a confused look on his face. Suddenly he looks up. "Miles! is he here? did you... is he?" Roscoe looks away fron Matt unable to look him in the face. [Miles is still a prisoner. We weren't able to grab you both and now Miles has been moved, making our job tougher. I was actualyl here hoping I could probe yoru memories for some idea of where he might be...] "Miles did a lot for me while we were there together, expecially after I got sick. I want to help save him in any way that I can." ============ Date: Wed, 30 Jul 1997 17:19:55 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: AAE III: Domestic labors On Wed, 30 Jul 1997 17:05:24 -0700 (PDT), in Message # 00000706 "P. PLease forgive me for what I am about to do but it is for hte best for your own sanity.] Roscoe shifts into a strange-looking giant scorpion-creature. Leaping across the room at a shocked Matt, the long tail strikes deep into his shoulder before he can protest or defend himself. Shifting back into his wolf form, Roscoe sends to matt as a test [The poison paralyzes both mind and body preventing the raising of your natural sheilds. It will wear off quickly.] But feels no response. Satisfied the poison has taken affect, Roscoe merges his mind with Matt's. Becoming Matt. Seeing what he saw, feeling what he felt. The revel had lasted far into the wee hours of the morning, but Matt didn't care. the wine had been flowing freely, the music was performed by some of the best bards in Athenos and the blonde who had been flirting with him was beautiful. Sometimes its great to be alive. But if he was to join her adn her maids of a picnic tomarrow he would NEED to get some sleep! The straw matress had never felt so good. His body had never felt so worn out and alive all at once. It felt like he would never be able to get his mind to give his body the sleep it craved, but the body won afterall. And he slept. In sleep the senses still go, though humans don't know how to tap those memories well. But Roscoe did. He heard teh door open. He could hear the femanine giggles and the bitter scent of the L'anchama pollen as it was sprinked over Matt's nose and mouth. Only then did things truly go black as Matt slipped furthur into unconciousness. Slowly he came out of it. Roscoe could hear the clatter of horse's hooves and the gutteral grumblings of a pair of orcs. He could feel the coarse rope around his wrists and something shackling his feet. He was dressed, though he had fallen into bed half naked. Opening his eyes, Matt could see his travelpack sitting next to him. He was in the back of a wagon being driven by two orcs. A third napped with his head on his knees, a large scimitar laying nearby. Matt smiled. He adn Driss had played a lot of tricks on each other in their youth and you didn't live around Driss logn without learing to wriggle out of bindings or else miss dinner. Watching the snozing Orc, Matt began to work his way free. Suddenly another orc popped into his view looking down at him and shaking a finger at him. "Bad Bad Bad!" The club returned Matt to unconciousness. When he awoke, he felt a tightness in his chest and hard straw sticking into his side. Looking up, he saw he wasn't alone. Looking down at him with that protective big brother look Miles favored so much was his 15 minute older sibling. "You OK Matt? I know those Orcs weren't looking so great when that thing punished them for messing you up so bad, but you look awful!" Matt managed a small smile. "Good, as long as I look as good as I feel!" He gave a little chuckle that ended in a hacking cough. Roscoe began hurrying his search. Right now the Brothers seemed to be in Zag. there they were transported by X-window to the cell in the Tomb. They watched as the Controller monitered the entire country from that tomb. They saw drones come and go, then they saw the duplicate Controller arive. PLots, plans, scemes, other visitors, people growing in tubs of liquid. conversations. Slips of the tounge. Pain, fatigue, hunger, thirst. tight chest. burning chest. choking. Fear. Roscoe returns to his own body he finds now is in Human Form hacking up phlegm and blood. Shifting his body back to his natural form he grasps in huge lungfulls of air before staggering into the main room to the others. "I'm done with Matt. He should be up....and around in a...while. The shade of the ends will show proximity, and you will feel a direction in your mind. You will have about 4 days before the blood samples die, at which time it will need to be re-activated with fresh blood samples." =========================== Date: Fri, 1 Aug 1997 00:00:47 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Aae-imprisonment (mostly OOC) On Thu, 31 Jul 1997 23:56:09, in Message # 00000729 "L.J. Just so everyone is clear (if there are any doubts) what has Knytt so upset is Roscoe's methods. She doesn't doubt his motives. She does realize that Matt offered to help, and that Roscoe says knowing ahead of time can allow someone to put up mental defenses. But, she would disagree with the way he went and attacked Matt with no warning, and there is the fact that it hit a nerve, feeling on the surface similar to her own recent experience. Knytt reacted with the gut instinct I had on first reading the passage, to be horrified and want to stop it. In other words, it's just me role-playing again. :) It had occurred to me to mention this before, just to insure everyone understood. I say it now only so it won't nag at me. "I'm sorry, I don't know where Driss hired you lot from, but I thought everyone in Quaren knew about Misern. A thousand years or so ago, it was the capital of Misern and as lush and green as the land east of hte mountains. Then as legend has it, Ligi became furious at the Kign for a slight against her, and threw down a bolt of sunfire so powerful it killed everyone and everything for a hundred miles areound. The forests were gone, sandy, desolate desert left in their place, and the city now belonged to the dead who were the only ones to inabit it." "Then when Darath teh Black came to power over a hundred years ago, he returned to Misern, and raised up the dead there to serve as his army. He attacked the King and made the King's armies chase him across the desert to the city wehre his own undead lay in wait. When the troops arrived and began searching the city, from everywhere swarmed undead and slaughtered them to a man. As a reward, Darath the Black granted the undead the semblance of life, reasing their memories of death and leaving htem to go about their days as if they had never died. Darath the Black is the only living being in the city. Which also leads to rumors that Darath the Black is in reality anything from a vampire to a demonic servent of Diswan who has turned his back on his master to serve Darath." "A few people have made the trek to Misern thought he roads have long ago been swept away by the winds and sands. What the device does is a quantum variance differential from the two samples and uses that to generate a psuedo true-name which it then uses as the tracking key and the power of the freely given blood to drive it, it would work almost as well if we had DNA samples from both parents, but might get confused as to which child we were seeking. If you are traveling through the desert though t is best to have a guide. The nomadic Bedouin's can be very cruel to travelers depending on the tribe. And the Lizardmen that roam those sands enjoy the taste of humanflesh. The exact travel time depends on the mode of travel and how well the weather holds. If there are many storms, it can slwo progress to a crawl and make the jounry take months. Our goal as the scouting party is to just find Miles and get close enough to bring him back here, probably retrieving him using Nemesis. Those spidery critters can do a lot of the legwork for us. As far as getting to Misern, horses and camels are probably too slow, but we want to *look* like we came here in the usual way. Father dear I've fought before But never in as large a war I'm scared and I'm not so sure That we'll not do the dying Son your fears you must put away And don your armor right today March to meet them far away Or the twon may do the dying Your love she lives in this town, And if they enemy comes down, You may never see her wedding gown For she may do the dying. They count on us to raise the sword and defend them in the name of the lord I shan't go back on my word Even if it means the dying. I can't tell you right from wrong but I ask you to rememebr this song And decide to come along Lest we do the dying. On the field you will find me For I hold strong to my duty, Pushing back the Enemy And sending them the dying. The son followed Father dear And the battle was join far from here And lasted near a half a year 'for the enemy finished dying. They returned as heroes to the town And rejoicing was all around And the love she wore her wedding gown for they did not do the dying The Son lost his father dear Before the next time the enemy were near Off to battle he went without fear For he learned about the dying..." (OOC, yes this WAS composed by me on the spot and I must have a muse sitting on my head. Also OOC I'll let Roland decide how it affects him since Bardic magic is very different from regular magic and this one wasn't technically directed at him, just at anyone who could hear it.) =========================== Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 17:20:47 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Aae-imprisonment. Stranger emerges from his room, having changed into his original Misern costume, his swords are by his side and his Falchion is slung across his back. "Nice." Stranger sits down and starts to change his appearence by more traditional means, swiftly shaving his head and applying some sort of ointment to give him a very good tan. =========================== Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 17:21:05 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Aae-imprisonment. Nemisis, if you don't mind I need a diamond, as near as you can manage to a perfect tetrahedron, with no flaws in the molecular structure. I want it as the focus for a dimension jump. Stranger, now looking the part of a bald Misern assassin, quickly assesses the situation: Roland down Morgan and Sil close by looking after him as best they can Nemisis providing stimulant Every one else focussed on Roland He rapidly reached two conclusions: 1) He couldn't do anything for Roland that wasn't already being done 2) Everyone was focussed inwards to Roland "Kitty, time to walk the perimeter, I think. Xzerrion! We're going to take a look around outside, make sure this isn't a distraction for anything else. I have a bad feeling about this." A few moments later Nemisis hands him the requested parts "The diamond pure carbon and perfectly regular of crystaline pattern, and perfect to within 7 angstroms (1/2 carbon atom diameter) in the Tetrahedral form. Drawing the Gateway katana, she lays it on the table, her hands resting on the blade and hilt. Coming to a decision, Knytt stares at the katana and concentrates. Her mind races as she alters the sword's programming. Removing a small golden rainbowed pen from an inside pocket, she laid it next to the sword, as well as two gold wristwatches. "Let's see what you can do with these." The katana seemed to melt and pool around the other items next to it. then the pool of metal engulfed them and formed into a shapeless blob undulating in several directions. Knytt shoved her hands through the blob, so it surrounded both wrists. The thing then solidified into two watches and a crystal sphere with an obsidian sphere suspended in the center. The obsidian sphere had gold inlays like a circuit board and the crystal sphere was etched with similar circuits. The globe hovered a few inches above her wrists. The watches were twins, Each was a gold band with the iridescent mini-lens set as the watch face. "Hmm, didn't expect it to incorporate the lens into the design. Doesn't seem to make it function any differently though. Oh well, no harm done. Just have a pair of half-sized mini-lenses instead of a full-sized mini-lens. Ok, watches, merge and contact." She winced slightly as the watches sent microscopic filaments to link to her nervous system. After a few moments, the watches had rooted themselves firmly to her wrists. *Contact complete.* "No wonder they incorporated the lens, it would have been in the way. Smart." she said to herself. She snatched the crystal ball from midair. She carried the cantaloupe-sized crystal to Fuzzy and Nemisis. /We've been attacked far too much recently. In case something happens to me, I want to be able to carry out the Quaren evacuation as planned. Fuzzy, if you will hold this globe with both hands and Nemisis will place a hand on top, it will imprint on the two of you and download instructions on how it operates. If you both would do that now?/ Nemisis will find in memory design plans on how to use the crystal portion of the sphere to implant five human cell-sized nanites, connected in a pentagon pattern, into each person on Quaren. The nanite pentagon should be implanted in the back, against the spine, just below the neck and between the shoulder blades. On the sphere's activation, the crystal will shatter into a cloud of the designed pentagons which Nemisis can manipulate into whatever delivery system she has designed. (In other words, they will do what she wants. If she wants to deliver them with the bugs that we mentioned would gather DNA samples, they will attach themselves to the stingers of the insects as they are created, like an assembly line, or they will wait until the insects have all been made, then attach all at once.) The shards, once imbedded can not be removed until the dimentional teleport has occured. If there are extra shards, (likely) they should be implanted in livestock and companian animals. The obsidian sphere is the control unit, Fuzzy will discover. It needs to be held in the palm of the hand. When the crystal shatters, the black sphere, about the size of a golf ball will stay with Fuzzy. If it is lost or taken, it will reappear at Fuzzy's feet in 30 seconds. Anyone else who touches it, except for Nemisis, Knytt or Fuzzy, will be electrocuted. The control unit and shards will only be able to dimensionally teleport once, so it has to be right the first time. Get a mental image of the destination, send it to the control unit and it will do the rest. The control unit will crumble to dust after it's used and the shards will deactivate and be disposed of via normal human waste processes. The control unit will teleport all those who are implanted, along with the bearer of the unit and anyone making physical contact with that person or physical contact with someone making physical contact. =========================== Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 22:50:37 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: AAE III: Spiders and Nightmares On Sun, 3 Aug 1997 00:36:37 -0500, in Message # 00000774 Michael Jon Knight said: >On Sat, 2 Aug 1997 17:56:48 -0700 (PDT), in Message # 00000772 > fuzzy said: > >> On Sun, 03 Aug 1997 01:03:52 -0700, in Message # 00000770 >> Gareth L Owen said: >> >> "Kitty, time to walk the perimeter, I think.
