Action, Adventure, Excitement, Part 4 Chapter 5 Subject: AAE: Controller Cometh On Tue, 25 Nov 1997 17:29:05 -0700 (MST) In Message # 00002095 In alt.callahans Post # 00000308 Driscoll said: The Controller adjusted the controls of hte console in front fo him one more time, fine tuning it to zoom in on it's targets. "Ahhh California, early 21st century. I have to admit, Jadis's equipment works wonderfully. I shall have to thank him again for it. Once the Army of Light is destroyed." Punching coordinates fromt eh console into another machine, an X-window appears. Stepping through, The Controller finds himself in LA. He looks around at the Army of Light as they suddenly pull their vanishing act. Cursing his timing silently he quiets as he spots Iron Man flying overhead. "Ahhh so he _has_ joined them. All the easier to turn them against themselves then. hmmmm" experimentally he raises his antenna and tries to sieze control of the Iron Man armor. For a moment it grabs, then is blocked. Iron man immediately swings around towards The Controller, but he flees again through an X-window back to his base. "Droids. Begin work on the attack wing I am sending you the plans for now. Also I have need of a child. Bring me one from the slave pens. Justin, you _will_ pay for trying to beat me." He goes to teh console again and readjusts the controls. Searching not for the Army of Light this time, but for Dr. Throne. Catching a moment when Thorne is away from Knightmare, The Controller siezes the chance to use his equipment to snatch the servent of the Adversary, just as The Controller had done to Thorne's predecessor, Gaunt so long ago. "Please calm yourslef. I simply have a proposition I wished to speak to _you_ and _you_ alone about. You need not worry about any loyalties to that _thing_. In act all I seek is the absence of action. I still will not actively help Knightmare, nor will I want any kind of help _it_ could give. But I want no interferance either. A simple non-aggression pact is all I seek. Yoru word is good enough fro your end. And for mine, a present." A bright chrome robot approaches, lookign somewhat like a Cylon Warrior with a glowing eyeslot and little int eh way of facial features. His right hand however is missing and instead replaces with a stick. "I know you replaces Gaunt. the evidence is obvious. Therefore you must hold the same desire to destroy Roland. Here is the ultimate weapon to do so. I got the idea from seeing the effect of a healing spell cast on him by the Drow elf. The wand on the right arm is one of healing. It can discharge the spell as needed. But when it does, it then extends an array of antenni which absorb the quite 'electrifying' effects of Roland's reaction. Then it focusses that enormous energy into a single coherant beam and fires it at Roland. Thus letting Roland's own energies destroy him. Poetic justice I think. The robot is also highly insulated against otehr forms of energy adn can absorb and channel them as well with a bit more limited effectiveness. I trust you will be bale to find a use for it." =========================== Subject: AAE: On the Ranch On Tue, 25 Nov 1997 18:14:04 -0800 (PST) In Message # 00002096 In alt.callahans Post # 00000309 The Lone One said: On Sun, 23 Nov 1997, Caprice wrote: > Mischief abandons devouring the radishes and walking through the > veggie tray. A single claw reached out to gently scratch the kitten behind the ears. Then on Sun, 23 Nov 1997, Morgan wrote: > Morgan looks up at Mandy's entrance and blushes furiously. "Oh, > grife, I'm sorry! I've just gotten so used to.... That was rude of > me, m'lady, and I offer my appologies." After a few moments of silence while Mischief purred enthusiastically, Raver looked back up at Morgan. "Eh...it is all right." A wry smile remained on her face as she vanished to be replaced by Mandy, sporting an identical smile. "At least you apologized honestly. This sort of thing's happened before, where people accidentally-on-purpose forgot things because of what we were. It's a bit of a sore spot with us, we're afraid." > "I'm not sure how your...gestalt...would react to one of > Dhyrchanc's lenses, but I could provide a temporary telepathic link > to the psi-web, until such time as you decide your permanant status > with the Army of Light," Roland offers. "A temporary telepathic link?" Mandy echoed in her own voice. She rose and leaned over to snag a bottle of Mountain Dew. "Well, why not?" Roland nodded, and reached out to their mind. Just before he made contact, he felt an intense surge of panic from Raver and had a glimpse of the familiar demon-form surging to its feet. "*NO!*" The mental -- and vocal -- scream rang out as he touched the mental shield. An instant before, it had been a normal grey color, but now it was black, with little tendrils licking out hungrily around the edges. One tendril shot out and wrapped around his wrist, and he fell through. A sensation not unlike being yanked through quicksand with fire ants in it shot through him, making Roland grimace. He continued to fall long past the point where he should've landed on something solid. Flailing accomplished nothing, and even telekinesis didn't do anything. Roland had to forcibly remind himself that he was not in his own mind and couldn't affect the mindscape. If there was one. Swallowing, he tried to reach out and contact Morgan, but there was no answer. *HELLO, ANYONE!* Cautiously, he cracked his mental shields open in an attempt to find either Mandy or Raver. Instead, what came through were images. With a flare of pain, they forced the crack wider, flooding through in a black river. Images of death. Screaming everywhere, with a mirthless laugh cutting through. A tall figure striding over battlefields, bathed in blood. Years of...darkness. A name whispered even in broad daylight on holy ground. Raver. The images kept coming at him relentlessly and he began to shake under the onslaught. Then one memory sucked Roland in. *He floated in the darkness. Waiting. With dreadful patience. The darkness changed. Someone had ventured onto the astral plane. Scent...a human cub. Excellent. Stalk. Hunt. The prey was laughably careless, and didn't notice his presence. POUNCE! Sink claws into the white glow. Scent of fear from the struggling prey. Pleasure. Then somehow...it vanished. Taking him with it in his surprise. When he recovered, he was inside the human body he had been hunting. And the cub was still there. Negligently he shoved it out. PAIN! It echoed through every fiber he owned. Then the cub was back, reeling from similar pain. They sized each other up. The cub spoke first. "We have a problem." He could only agree, staring at the complex feedback loops that now ran between them.* "Roland! ROLAND!" Someone was shaking him, and he sat up, shaking his head. "Wha..." Roland was sitting in what seemed to be a fairly normal mindscape. The someone who had been shaking him stopped, letting him get a good look for the first time. It was Mandy. Except this Mandy was trailing ragged streamers of black from her skin from her skin and clothes that led off into nothing. Her eyes were very tired, and she seemed more fragile than in real life. Then she smiled, and the impression was gone. "Roland. It's a good thing I found you -- you were trapped in a memory fugue. I'm sorry -- Raver panicked, since she doesn't like having telepaths poking around this mess. If I'd thought a bit more clearly, I'd have said no, too, but..." She hunched a shoulder wryly and brushed a streamer out of her eyes. "Anyway, you're in what passes for my mind. I'll show you the way out, since this skull of mine can only take so many personalities." They started walking in silence. After a while, the mindscape beneath Roland's feet rumbled, and Mandy looked alarmed. "C'mon, we better hurry." "Why? Can I help?" "No. It's taking all my concentration just to hold this." She didn't offer any explanation, but began to trot faster. Roland caught up to her easily, but staggered slightly as the mindscape shook harder. An expression of pain crossed her face, and she sank to her knees, clenching her hands in the ground. Mandy concentrated fiercely, and gradually the quaking slowed to a more manageable level. "Shields that way. Down for you. Hurry...please?" She tried to smile at him. "Thanks," Roland replied before turning and sprinting for the mindscape's edge, making a mental note to have a long talk with her when this was all over. He could see the gate beckoning, alive with more of the familiar gray energy. As he got closer, there was a silent thunderclap and the mindscape slid sideways. "GRIFE!" Black tentacles shot out from every direction, trying to wrap around him, and he twisted to avoid them. In the distance, he could see the kneeling form of Mandy being wrapped in streamers of black until she resembled nothing so much as a pale fly in a black spiderweb. She heaved to her feet, and screamed, "HAUL ASS YOU IDIOT!" as she tried to hold a semblance of reality together long enough for him to get out. The yell galvanized Roland into action, and he dove through the gate into his own body seconds before it melted shut. Mandy slipped to her knees again in the black miasma, pushing streamers out of her eyes with shaking hands. A tall winged form appeared out of the darkness, and knelt next to her. "You should not have done that without warning me first." "I know. But...I forgot. Just for...one...moment, I forgot you." She began to rock, hugging herself tightly. =========================== Subject: Re: Hh -- Take two! Slipping on a pair of gold-mirrored sunglasses, she says: "Defending this place is illogical. The makeup of the group staying behind will surely be detrimental to the stated objectives of that group. As has been stated before, the group desiring to stay and fight will fail in its objectives because it relies on tactics that most likely caused the situation in this world to occur to begin with. Flipping on his external speaker he booms "This is the Los Angeles Police Department. We have the building surrounded. You have already proven you are inside. You are wanted witnesses and possible suspects in an on-going mass homocide investigation. They've already threatened us. Justification is hereby given for deadly force. OPEN FIRE!!!" Thirty SWAT officers in heavy combat powered armor, a couple dozen regular police in their light combat suits and three Mecha start pouring on all the firepower they have on the building. Walls begin revealing the armor hidden beneath the stucco, but even it starts super heating and buckling quickly. The vehicle bay (much to Roscoe's disress) goes up quickly as shots rupture the fuel tanks of cars parked inside and a stored fuel container.
