The Bard groans as the telepathic message awakes him. "Bloody telepaths. Wish she could've just sent something over the comm." ***** Donar looked over his squad with a grunt of satisfaction. Good spacing, camoflage in place, their quarry would never know what hit her. Here in the outlands he and his men were scorned--reviled as hired blades, while other men with more wit than hair were accounted heroes for performing the same sorts of tasks. The irony was not precisely lost on him, but he refused to let himself dwell on it, lest he be woolgathering when the target arrived. Any minute now, the informer had promised, and she would be passing through this part of the Celadon Forest. "Hey, mister!" A young voice, with that peculiar elven inflection. Donar payed it no heed. "Hey, mister!" This time about two feet from his ear. Donar couldn't quite suppress a yelp: he had forgotten how quietly elves could move, even the brats. "Quiet, kid, you'll warn my prey." "Whatcha huntin? Owlbear? My daddy says owlbears are hard to kill. Is that why you got so many friends lining the road?" "Nah. I'm after a person. She's been a thorn in M'Lord Iuz's side for a few months now, so we're going to make sure she...ahh...won't be a problem any more." Was that his imagination, or was there a flash of rage in the kid's eye? "Who is she? She must be dangerous if you need a dozen men to go after her." "Her name's Erindrea, and my briefing says she's a tricksy wench. A sorceress and an archer, and nobody seems to be quite sure where she came from." "Thank you, sir. You have confirmed my suspicions." Cool, razor steel tucked itself under his chin as the brat dissolved to reveal his quarry. "I suggest you avoid any...heroics. I would rather not have to kill you, but I'd prefer that to dying myself." ***** Dragging himself out of bed, Harlock suddenly flinches as if hit in the back, then goes paper-white. "Erin? Erin! I'm coming, baby!" The Bard jerks a small glass vial from one of his pouches and smashes it on the nightstand, then fades from view. ***** Mordenkainen is less than pleased at having his dinner interrupted by a bard materializing in the room. With a quirk of the lip, he directs the unseen servant to move the soup turreen so that Harlock lands in it. Harlock surveys the room quickly, then addresses his host. "Ah, Mordenkainen. I would ask you to join me in a bowl of soup, but there only seems to be room for one here." Despite the archmage's best efforts, his lips twitch into a brief grin. ================================= Subject: Re: AAE6: Coming together Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 21:12:15 -0800 (PST) On Fri, 02 Mar 2001 21:05:08 -0800 Roland X Said As CAoL Message # 00009361 >On Fri, 02 Mar 2001 02:58:07 -0800 >Dane Said As CAoL Message # 00009356 > >/*"It will be safe for both you and the children. In the pocket of folded space, Roland concentrates. ^Love? Are you ready?^ ^As I'll ever be,^ Morgan replies. "Eric, you go on ahead with the Stone," Roland says, opening a 'hole' in the hyperfold. "I'll be along in a little bit." Eric gives Roland a look of curiosity, but shrugs, settles his shades back into place, and appears where appropriate with the battered box, still wrapped in brown paper. (Anyone with the appropriate senses will detect the Stone's power immediately.) Roland then goes out the 'other side,' and the hyperfold vanishes. He appears by Morgan's side. ^"Shall we, my heart?"^ he asks with a smile, holding out his hand. Morgan raises an eyebrow, clearly asking with her expression just WHY he insists on stating the obvious. ^Force of habit?^ he replies with a mental grin. He takes her hand and they travel across dimension. Roland appears, dressed somewhat formally (for him), wearing a 'casual' variation of his wedding suit. He smiles and gestures, and a rounded force-construct 'chair' appears behind Morgan. Morgan appears in a long green gown, which is probably the least combat-ready garb anyone's seen her in since the wedding. She's _very_ pregnant. Those who are familiar with the stages of pregnancy can tell with a look that the twins have 'dropped.' With impressive grace for a woman close to nine months pregnant, she glides into the chair. (Her relief to be resting is apparent, however.) Roland holds out his hand, and a bowl of nacho cheese tortilla chips appears in it. "Hi, folx! It's really good to see everybody again." He folds his legs underneath him (without descending, leaving him floating a few feet off the ground) and munches a bit. "Anyone hungry?" He turns to his beloved. "Need anything from the house, love?" he asks with a slightly impish grin. She caresses his cheek lovingly. "I have everything I need right here," she says, her voice glowing as much as her face. Roland's grin melts into the smile of a man hopelessly in love. "I love you," he says redundantly (but with a voice thick with emotion) and they kiss gently. Repeatedly. With disgustingly happy looks and occasional giggles in between. After, no doubt, several throats clear (Eric does so politely if no one else does), they break. Morgan blushes ever so slightly. "Ahem," Roland says eloquently. "So, who's in charge of this shindig? It ain't me this time," he adds, his grin returning. "Aurora? You seem to be the one of us with the most of a clue here. "Since I've got to bug out before this shindig starts, and I would like as many records as possible of it, I'd ask you to turn on the record function, by pushing this button here." Scott points to a button on the goggles. "Just be careful; your eyes can't be permanently damaged while wearing these, but you can be temporarily blinded by the bright light if you look too long at a bright light." Scott tosses him the goggles. "Remember, give 'em back when you're done. I can give you another pair, but it'll take awhile, and these ones have sentimental value." Scott puts the goggles back in his pocket, muttering, "Your choice." Scott then turns, walks a distance along the curved chalk line, and sets up an old style box camera. He repeats this at every 15 degrees of the circle (about every 78 meters), threading a wire between them. Scott turns to Nemisis. "The cameras should be protected from the radiation by the boxes; just please don't disturb the wire; it's used to synchronize the timings in each. However, the sound is magnified both by the echos from the trees and because, once the _vehicles_ leave the shelter of the forrests, it becomes obvious to the viewer that there are more than one of them. There are four of them, in fact, traveling in a straight line. They are, also, accopanied, by a Nemisisi, in Cyclone-Bike-Mode, to the right of the strange convoy, and an airborne Nimrod, to the left. As they get nearer, the vehicles can be made out to be some strange sort of beige-colloered cross between a crab, a spider, some sort of mini-tank, and an, aformentioned, four-wheeled ATV. In addition to all of this, the lead vehicle has a small, yellow-colored, cat-sized, long-eared, rodent-like animal sitting atop of it, which, as the vehicles come even nearer, can be seen to have a long tail, and blackand red markings on it. They approach the individuals gathering around the front of the castle and, when they arrive, the yellow-animal jumps off of the lead vehicle and taps on the side crying, in a somewhat shrill voice, "Pika, pika" /We're here!/ *Thanks, Max!* Yep! It's a Pikachu (sp?), ain't I a stinker? There's more to come, folks. I just had to split this in half because of the length. I hope to post the second half ASAP. Try not to have too much fun as I'm not there (yet!) ;^D P.S.: The song, obviously, isn't mine. It's a compositiion by the Artist known as Marc Cohn. The name of the song? It's "Already Home". It's an upbeat, gospel-influenced, "blues-ey" kind of number that I figure was applicable to "Callahan's", in general, and the loose-knit family that is the CAoL, in particular. If you're interested, run -- don't walk -- to your nearest music shop and pick-up "Burning the Daze"; I've only heard about three of his albums but this one seems to be the best, so far ================================= Subject: Re: Time for AAE6i Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2001 20:41:19 -0800 (PST) On Sun, 4 Mar 2001 23:22:39 -0600 Martin (at Work) Said As CAoL Message # 00009376 On Sun 4 March 2K1, "Fuzzy" Sent: >When they have finished, > Nemisis comes out bringing the Artifacts she has in her possesion, > As well as Fuzzy's Staff and Lens. > Setting the Artifacts up perhaps halfway between the inner circle >and the Center, > And driving the butt of the Staff into the ground nearby. > >Then all six Splits Merge back into Nemisis, > Without apperantly increasing her Volume. Mike arrived at the appointed location with the Game of If atop an anti-gravity platform, the Quantum Shield around his neck, and the Senior Guardian of If, Captain Ironfounderson, and Tinkerbell. The Game was lowered "automagically" off the platform, and Mike took off the Quantum Shield and set it atop the Game. With a glance at Roland amd Morgan, Mike seemed to realize he's forgotten something. He glanced at Tink, who guessed what he'd been thinking and nodded a silent agreement.. "/Ladies and Gentlemen,/" Mike said and sent, "/I'd like you all to meet the Senior Guardian of If, who provided us the Game of If, and Captain Ironfounderson, who is in the employ of the High King, who provided us with the Quantum Shield. They've both come to witness what we here are about to attempt, the restoration of Fuzzy, for their respective groups/peoples/etc. Please do what comes naturally and make them feel welcome. "/Tink and I will be back momentarily./" The pair of technomage/time travellers dissolved in a transporter effect, as did their replicator equipment and other gear onboard Ironfounderson's ship, the dimensional jump engine being the one thing they leave behind, and in the castle. They reappeared in the same fashion, having cleaned themselves up and changed, exactly where they'd been standing. Mike gestures the Senior Guardian and Ironfounderson toward Nemisis's minimum safe distance marker line, the area where Rob is sitting. "I believe the viewing area there will prove sufficient, if Nemisis hasn't set up a better viewing area elsewhere." And finally, a word or two hundred for those who hadn't seen Mike and Tink's appearance in a while... Michael was tall, about six-two, and looked to be roughly thirty-two or so, with olive skin and short ash brown hair that had red and blonde highlights in the proper light and was just long enough to fall over to one side or the other of the part above the outer corner of his right eye. His eyes were mismatched; the right, a clear brown, the left, a dark blue, almost black. His eyebrows were low and angled so that he often looked angry, no matter the actual mood he was in. There were a few faint lines on his forehead just under the widow's peak. He'd been cultivating a beard for some time in his journey back to the castle, which was the same color as he hair, except it had more blonde in it, and he'd apparently helped it along quite a bit since he'd left downstairs, as well as having the result neatly trimmed into a shape that broadly traced the angle of his jaw before rising up around his mouth in a moustache and under his lip in a line as wide as his nose. The whiskers seemed to grow in swirls on his jaw and under his chin. He was of a slightly athletic build, weighing about 200 pounds, though he tended to dress to hide the fact. He wore a black, banded collar shirt, the two top buttons open, which had some silver embrodered geometric designs down the front between the button holes. He wore black, pleated slacks, a black belt with a silver buckle, and shiny black leather shoes. Over this monotone attire, he adopted a bright red sport coat, the rounded, unknotched lapel of which made a curving taper at the waist button, ran up the length of the jacket around the back and down the opposite side. The lapel and cuffs of the jacket were green, with a red yellow, black, blue and white tartan pattern running diagonally on the green. Tink was, by way of contrast, a slender girl of twelve, five feet tall, with silver-grey eyes and platinum blonde hair, cut shoulder length and curling under at the ends, contrasting with skin that was almost golden. She wore black leggings under a black party dress, with matching black leather flats. She wore a jacket identical to Mike's excepting it was cut to end at her waist, and her sleeves ended just past the elbow. A silver chain necklace and silver bracelets completed the ensemble. ================================= Subject: Re: Time for AAE6i Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 15:11:35 -0800 (PST) On Mon, 5 Mar 2001 22:22:36 +0000 (GMT) Stranger Said As CAoL Message # 00009388 >On Sat, 3 Mar 2001 23:11:54 -0800 >Nemisis Said As CAoL Message # 00009366 > >Half a dozen Nemisis Splits come out into the selected area, > One Cuting the Grasses, > Another providing Chairs, > Another Assembles Pedestals for the Smaller Artifacts, > Yet another Draws a pair of concentric Circles, > Like Chalking the Lines on a Football Field, > If asked the "Chalk" is composed of, Stranger arrives at the edge of the outer circle, having walked down from castle, his pockets bulging with the packed lunch he's been preparing in the Castle kitchens. "No, it just has an internal sensor that records the position of your eyes. It was designed that way for, essentially, legal reasons; if you weren't looking when something happened 'on camera' but without sound, you couldn't be held responsible for not helping. It also helped, when combined with a live feed, diagnosing psionic illusions, and pinpointing the position of things that couldn't be filmed." >>"Ah heck." Rob makes a quick run through his senses, wondering if Scott >means, "I have a very powerful interference pattern," or, "This is >such a delicate operation that the fields I naturally generate might >cause problems." A little of both. Rob notices that Scott isn't physically there; the body he knows as Scott Osborne is really just a projection of some kind. Then he notices the space around him is slightly distorted; not very, though. It feels like local space-time is trying to push out an intruder, but not very hard; or, (if Rob is scientifically inclined), that Scott is applying constant pressure to space-time in order to do something, perhaps remain stable. This comes off, when viewed mystically, as a dark aura that surrounds Scott, but isn't really attached to him. In addition, the projection is somewhat... fuzzy. Flaws abound, but all vanish as quickly as they appear. "No, now you see." Scott mutters, as he sets up another camera. ================================= Subject: Re: R: On a Nemo, In a Castle, Far, Far Away... Zia is wearing an outfit in a lovely dark blue with hints of purple iridescence. The blouse is somewhere between transparent and translucent. Anyone looking at it can't *quite* be sure if they are seeing Zia's skin or not. It has a *very* flared "collar" that frames Zia's head and hair beautifully (I've see such things on some paintings, but the only referent I can come up with that I'm sure folks will recognize are some of Ming the Merciless' court garb. Think of the collar as sort of "swooping up" like some sort of shell behind the wearer's head) The skirts are full but light, and have some sort of hidden support field effect that keeps them from getting in the wearer's way. And there's a lovely pendant with a dark blue stone that might be Azurite. Or might not. It's mounted on a lovely silvery metal and hangs from a chain of the same metal. Some might recognize it as some sort of alloy of mithril. She's also wearing a ring of the same metal with a malachite stone the same size and shape as the one on her pendant. She's wearing it on the first finger of her right hand. Nemo has a pendant hanging from the same kind of chain. The pendant has an odd sort of swirl design. Rarther like a cross between a triskelion and a yin-yang symbol. They stroll towards the group, arm in arm. ================================= Subject: AAE6: Inviting Squee was (Re: AAE6 Catching all myselves up... Well Kinda...) She glances around; a pair of deck chairs have appeared in the protected circle-thingie she and Nemo are occupying. "Never liked to watch a good show standing up." She explains the minor shadowshift. She takes a chair, getting her skirts settled with the easy grace of long practice. She smiles, nods, gives general greetings to any of the other CAoL in easy ear shot who seem to want such things, then she turns back with a half-puzzled frown to Nemo. "I don't suppose you, or anyone else here, can explain in a manner simplified enough for my understanding _why_ Fuzzy was reduced to artifacts? Or why it is possible to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again?" The petite Amberite grins ruefully, "I think the closest I've come to understanding Fuzzy was drawing the Creation sign to transform him when we were giving Jadis trouble as members of the Indian pantheon. I didn't understand why that seemed to fit then, but at least my instincts work where my comprehension doesn't fill the gaps." =================================
