QUAGMIRE

The Darkforce Devourer

This devastating intergalactic menace is one of the greatest foes the Squadron has ever known. Even General Kro's ambitions only go beyond Earth in the abstract, but the alien Kawagmyrr won't rest until every protector the universe has is swallowed forever in darkness!

Character history:
Kawagmyrr is a former wielder of the Power Prism. Once, this alien was chosen to be a Protector of the Universe by Eon, who saw the being's potential for both good and evil, and hoped to guide him toward a noble destiny. Instead, the power corrupted Kawagmyrr, who decided he was the greatest and wisest powered champion in known space. Why, he even knew better than Eon!

This folly did not last long. Kawagmyrr's coup was ill-conceived and short-lived, and the alien was stripped of Prism and title, exiled to a dark world to consider his errors. Instead, he grew bitter and hateful. In his obsession, he sought something, anything, that might serve as a weapon against the hated Eon. The darkness of his exile proved to be his salvation. Kawagmyrr discovered the Darkforce, and studied it obsessively until he had merged with, and mastered, its terrible power. He flew free and set out to murder all of Eon's champions, and eventually, Eon itself.

It might have worked, too, were it not for Doctor Spectrum. The Rainbow Gladiator has always proven equal to the task of thwarting Kawagmyrr's murderous schemes. Still, the alien destroyer has had his moments. He has turned the humans' mispronunciation of his name into a title that strikes fear into all of Dr. Spectrum's kind. One day, the Quagmire will devour them all. One day...

Tactics:
Quagmire is evil on a scale most of the other members of the Squadron Sinister barely even comprehend. Even the madmen Huckster and the Anti-Whizzer think on the human scale, seeking to spread chaos among hundreds or wreak vengeance on a handful of people. Quagmire wishes to topple the thin rainbow line shielding the universe from countless horrors...then let those horrors in to torment Eon for eternity. Only Kro truly understands the alien, and thus they work reasonably well together. Quagmire is a bit of a showoff in battle, as long as he is not personally in danger. He teleports almost randomly, flitting around a battle and hammering at opponents with his Darkforce constructs. Occasionally, if it will torment Spectrum, he will try to capture victims instead of swallowing them in the darkness. Still, in spite of his advanced intellect, Kawagmyrr has little real sense of teamwork, so Doc Spectrum has the upper hand whenever the two teams clash.
