May 14, 2009: Pax, Mal Battle as Conspiracy Revealed Within Utopia

Bahrain (N!)— At the high-security prison facility in Bahrain yesterday, as André Corbin was about to surrender to Team Tomorrow, perhaps the single most explosive nova battle ever fought erupted between three Teams Tomorrow, Bahrain security, a Teragen strike force, escaping elites, and the mysterious self-styled "Aberrants" faction. Immediately after the indecisive battle, Caestus Pax himself announced that conclusive evidence had been uncovered that Project Utopia had been infiltrated by another organization. Referring to this conspiracy as "Project Proteus," Director Pax claimed that efforts by Internal Affairs, along with many other novas both within and outside of Utopia, have been working to bring this project to justice.

"Thanks to the efforts of many novas opposed to the Orwellian vision the leaders of Proteus apparently worked towards, we now have concrete evidence of this organization and some of its goals." Caestus Pax further stated that he would address the issue when time permitted.

The intense battle, which curiously took only one life — the nova serial killer known as "Scratch," who was slain by Tötentanz during the escape — began when the roof of the facility exploded and some of the world's most murderous novas began to pour out, accidentally released by a Teragen assault team looking for members of their organization. As the assembled Teams Tomorrow, led by Thorn, Quasar and Caestus Pax, tried to restore order, other novas appeared to protect Corbin. The secretive Sophia Rousseau and Chad "The Living Wreck" Berger came to help the mysterious nova teleporter "Ilsa" and several Utopia novas led by Samantha "Songbird" Page as they rallied around Corbin. Novas believed to be part of "Proteus," along with two T2M novas (possibly impostors), made an attempt on the notorious iconoclast's life.

Within the facility itself, chaos reigned as other novas searched for the evidence of which Caestus Pax spoke. Several battles were apparently being fought within the remains of the facility, but as the building collapsed, the nova group escaped with an unknown database that has now provided Utopia with the information they need to fight Proteus.

As the battle seemed to be reaching its climax, the legendary nova Divis Mal appeared and mocked Director Pax. When Caestus Pax ignored Mal's taunts to go to the aid of the badly pressed Quasar — under assault at the time by four elites, including long-time nemesis Prometheus — Mal interposed himself between Pax and the battle, beginning what may be the most spectacular display of nova conflict to date. Richter measurements picked up tremors resulting from the battle as far away as New York and Mumbai. Though Mal ultimately proved the more powerful, Caestus proved the more devious combatant. He maneuvered Divis Mal into the heart of the collected Tomorrowites, and, with most of the elites having fled by then, ordered a full-scale assault on the powerful Teragen. For the first time, Mal seemed in real danger of defeat.

But another twist occurred as, with the few remaining Teragen coming to Divis Mal's aid, the mysterious Achilles fired an anti-matter weapon at the group. Somehow having taken control of the power-dampening technology of the Bahrain facility, he prevented escape by the present novas -- and revealed in passing that he had destroyed Sao Paolo! With a threat to all of them imminent, the Utopians and the Teragen put aside their differences to stop the attack. While Pax and the mystery nova only known as "Lanfear" (who took her name from the 12-book Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan) slowed the bomb physically, Ilsa teleported famed elite Nullifier to the device to defuse its living nova weapon. Utopia is currently treating the still-unknown nova, who they hope to release within the week. Nullifier refused comment on his part in the incident except to say "It has been an honor to be able to assist my fellow novas."

With the threat neutralized, the Teragen retreated and the remaining Utopians arrested the remaining novas known to have worked with Proteus. In a shocking development, founding T2M member Psyche was among those arrested. She had no statement at the time.
