Page Lesson: 7th Precept

7th Precept: Minimal appearance, maximum content.

It is the function and the contents that count, not the packaging. Industriousness is the key. Work diligently at any task.

Sentinel Challenges:

  1. Organize your toys. Donate those that you don’t use anymore to charity.
  2. Choose the right clothes for the right season. Help put your other clothes away.
  3. Define simplicity. How can we simplify our lives?
  4. Slow down, do it right the first time. Practice your writing/printing skills.
  5. Explain your interpretation of the keep it simple, silly (K.I.S.S.) concept. For example, we choose our keep out uniforms simple. Why?
  6. There are other groups who also choose to keep things simple. Find one and tell your group why you think they fallow this concept.
  7. In your own words define Industriousness. Then look it up.
  8. Read and discuss the story “The ant and the grasshopper”
  9. Now that you know what it means, find and share with your group an example of when you have been Industrious.
  10. Discussion:” industriousness and your future” work ethic is something we learn at a young age and we carry with us our whole lives. How will leaning to be industrious affect your future?

Warden Challenges:

  1. Why do you think Penmanship is important? Provide an example of you best penmanship.
  2. Work on simplifying you life. Simplify your bedroom without sacrificing quality.
  3. Many cultures have ceremonial make up and clothes. What is the purpose for this custom?
  4. Research a culture that uses ceremonial dress and share your findings with the group.
  5. In your own community what is the purpose for make up? What does it represent?
  6. Focus on the big issues and the small stuff falls into place Centering will help us learn to focus. Show that you know how to center yourself and understand how to focus on a task.
  7. When asked a question that you don’t know the answer to, why is “I DON”T KNOW” not an appropriate answer? How should you answer? How could you find the answer?
  8. K.I.S.S principal (keep it simple silly): Find 3 examples were you have noticed “the contents is more important that the container” share with your group.
  9. Discussion: what is peer pressure? How can your views of simplicity be challenged by it?
  10. How does industriousness apply to your life? Alone or as a group create a story the shows you understanding of this concept.

Page Challenges:

  1. Complete all remaining sentinel and warden level challenges and discuss with your group what you have leaned about this precept.
