Project Linus, blanket #4: Wave Ripple

blanket4-detail (See my original Project Linus post for more details.)

Man, have I gotten behind on these :-). It’s Catch-up Day here on Tiny Toon Adve…er, anyway… This one will have more detail, since I couldn’t find a pattern to do what I had in mind and ended up creating my own. Feel free to share this one around with other folks. I’ve marked it with the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike License.

(note that I folded the blanket in half for the full image)

Finished size: 54″ x 64″

Yarn: Caron’s “One Pound” again, “royalty 530” and “soft sage 580”.

Hook: size G, I think (it’s been a while)

Pattern: Ch a multiple of 28, plus 2 (for this one, I chained 198)

Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 inc, 2dc, 1 inc, * (2dc, 1 dec) 4 times, (2dc, 1 inc) 4 times, rep from * across, (2dc, 1 dec) 4 times, (2dc, 1 inc) twice, 1dc, ch2, turn.

Row 2: dc in 1st st, 1 inc, 2dc, 1 inc, * (2dc, 1 dec) 4 times, (2dc, 1 inc) 4 times, rep from * across, (2dc, 1 dec) 4 times, (2dc, 1 inc) twice, dc in last st, ch2, turn.

Repeat Row 2 as desired. I did six rows per color change, but of course this can be changed to taste.

If you try this and find I goofed on my writeup, please let me know so I can fix it.

For the experts, this can be modified to make a narrower or looser wave. The easiest change is the number of double-crochet stitches between increases/decreases, but the total number in each wave can also be modified. The trick is keeping the number such that your increases and decreases are lined up vertically. I wish I’d made better notes :-). This should also work using single-crochet instead of double, but I haven’t tried it so I can’t vouch for the results. If you do try it, let me know how it turns out.
