Over the winter, I got to like being able to just throw on a cap when I didn’t want to do anything with my hair for a quick run to the store. But summers in Sunny Southern California are not exactly suited to winter head wear :-). So, I decided to crochet up a cotton hat.
The color on the first one looks closer, the other more yellowed (the Obama button on the first image can be used to eyeball any color shift). This was done with a double strand of finer crochet thread (size 10 at a guess), partly to get a little more bulk and partly because I wasn’t sure I had enough of the one to finish it. One thread was white or very near to it, the other more of a champagne. The down side of using up leftovers — not always having labels to get info from :-).
IIRC, I used a size 1 hook; gauge approx. 6 sts = 1″. I used a basic crochet cap pattern, but worked the double-crochet stitches in the space between stitches on the previous row, which gives it a bit more of an open-work look (and lets it breath a bit more).
