(THIS POST ISN’T QUITE FINISHED. I wanted to get it out there for proofreading, but the rather critical element of the TARDIS chart hasn’t been added yet. The truly impatient can get it from the linked original pattern, though.)

A few months back, I did a “pay it forward” post on Facebook, offering to make one “single skein” project for anyone who asked, with the payment being they’d do something nice for someone else. This is one of the two requests I got: A TARDIS-blue scarf.

This post is photo-heavy because I’m using it to document the trial-and-error that went … (read more) “TARDIS scarf”

Because the wine shag bathroom set I’ve had since the 80s SO needed to be replaced :-). Photos forthcoming…

Hook: 5.0 mm (H)
Yarn: Lion Brand Recycled Cotton, Marine and Seashells

These are an improvised design. I used the Best Crocheted Potholder technique to get a thick rug without needing to double the yarn and use a big hook. The stripe pattern is one I came up with after searching the web for various ways of doing stripes other than just alternating colors: 8 rows blue, 4 white, 2 blue, 4 white, 2 blue, 4 white.

kitchen-matSomething I came up with based on looking at various crochet rug patterns online. These are more notes I made as I went along than a well-written pattern, so let me know if something doesn’t work or doesn’t make sense.

green-striped-blanketPattern: Sideway Shell Baby Afghan (aka Newbie Shell Afghan) by Donna Lang
Craft: Crochet
Made for: Mending Hearts Project
Size: aprox 36″ square
Hook: 5.5 mm (I)
Yarn: Caron One Pound, Soft Sage 580 and Forest Green 534

Notes:

Ran out of Simply Soft for caps, but I found a box of One Pound so I started this.

Notes/changes from original pattern:

With lt.green, ch.95. Work pattern over 30 (sc, ch.2, 2dc) shells for 10 rows, change to dk.green, continue working 10 rows/color for 6 stripes. Edging is 2 rows of shells, lt.green then dk.green.

Pattern from: McCall’s Needlework & Crafts, Spring 1978
Craft: Knitting
Made for: My boys, among others
Size: Infant
Needle: US 2 – 2.75 mm
Yarn Weight: Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi)

Notes:

This is copied from a pattern I typed up many years ago from the McCall’s magazine. I wrote it up for two gauges, because it varied based on the yarn. When making these as gifts, I used white yarn and included several colors of ribbon.
