I know, Tom Tomorrow, Daily Kos, Atrios (and here), The Left Coaster (who seems to have originated this round), and last but not least Roland’s Justice Log have already covered it, but (in my not-so-humble-opinion) it bears repeating :-).
From the official White House web site (assuming they don’t lose or change the page), the letter from GW to Congress justifying his imminent attack on Iraq:
March 18, 2003
Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)
Consistent with section 3(b) of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Public Law 107-243), and based on information available to me, including that in the enclosed document, I determine that:
(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic and other peaceful means alone will neither (A) adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq nor (B) likely lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and
(2) acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.
Sincerely,
GEORGE W. BUSH
Then, today on CNN :
"No, we’ve had no evidence that Saddam was involved with the September the 11th…" attacks.
So, which is it, Mr. Bush? Are you lying now, or were you lying to Congress then to justify this little hoedown that’s cost billions of dollars and hundreds of American lives (not to mention thousands of other lives)?
Yet another blogger, "Busy Busy Busy," has a transcript of John King’s interview with our Commander in Thief.
So, I’ve asked before and I’ll ask again: which is worse, lying about consentual adult sex, even if it happens to be outside the bonds of legal matrimony, or lying to take a country into a war of conquest in opposition to, well, just about every intelligent being on the planet?
As one of my sigs says,
Impeach Bush —
Because screwing a nation is worse than fondling an intern
