Enough with the milestones

Posted on November 3, 2003May 30, 2021 by The_Blogmother

Or maybe they’d be better called “mill stones.”

November 2, 2003 — the second deadliest day of this fiasco for American troops. Sixteen dead per the Iraq Casualty Count, topping the 30 deaths on March 23.

May all the gods grant that by next year’s Day of the Dead, we can comfort ourselves in the knowledge that the pointless deaths have stopped. We have no such comfort this year.

Another milestone we can live without

Posted on October 28, 2003January 30, 2022 by The_Blogmother

As of the 27th, October has the highest hostile casualty count since “major combat operations” ended — 29 to July’s 28. It looks like July will continue to hold the overall post-Lincoln casualties/month record with 46, since October is currently at 38. At least, we can hope and pray.

Checking in

Between Real Life and posting more opinion-oriented bits on the Justice Log, there’s not been much to say here. The spin goes on, as do the casualties. I may not be posting here, but I’m trying to keep my casualty calendar up to date. It’s an almost daily task, more’s the pity…

Like Watching a Train Wreck

Posted on October 7, 2003May 30, 2021 by The_Blogmother

Watching early election returns, it strikes me that it takes a special kind of idiot to vote for someone who publicly pulled out of the race.

At 8:38pm, with 10.6% of the precincts in, Arianna Huffington has 20,226 votes, Peter Ueberroth has 6,183, and Bill Simon has 2,209. They’re running 5th, 6th and 8th respectively.

I weep for my state.

What a Tangled Web

Posted on October 7, 2003March 28, 2022 by The_Blogmother

While we wait to see what the results of today’s voting are, I’m playing catch-up on the various email updates I get from some of my favorite sites. David Corn, the man who originally brought the Plame leak to our attention (even if it took the mainstream media several weeks to catch up) has a wonderful analysis of the lies that are catching up with the Bush White House.

More on the Wilson/Plame Flap

Posted on September 30, 2003May 30, 2021 by The_Blogmother

Rather than add a lot of commentary, I’m mainly doing my bit on this by compiling a list of relevant articles. I think I have everything up through MSNBC bringing the story into the limelight, but after that I’m picking and choosing. There are so many, they get redundant after a while. However, I’m making a concerted effort to stick to facts. They, in the long run, will speak for themselves.

Wilsongate? We can hope.

Not much to add to this one, but here’s hoping this is the one the Bushies won’t be able to sweep under the rug :-).

The Iraq Coalition Casualty Count changed their categories, so I had to make a few changes to mine. The main change seems to be to count accidents caused by hostile fire as hostile, rather than just accidents. My calendar has been updated to show those accidents as hostile deaths as well.

Other changes I noticed: The two homicides are now listed as “hostile”; three of the nine “friendly fire” deaths are accounted under “hostile,” and I can’t account for the other six; the three possible suicides are counted under other categories.
