Spells for Democracy: Release the salamanders!

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but a while back I saw a post about Spells for Democracy on Isaac Bonewits’ blog. At first I didn’t put too much attention on it, then on 9/26 we did that week’s spell:

(09/26) Klutzokinesis spell on opposition candidates, political party spin- masters to make them accidentally speak truth in public

A few days later, the Foley story broke. We couldn’t help but notice the timing.

More below the fold…

The next week’s spell was:

(10/03) Spell to encourage whistle-blowing at the Diebold corporation about secret programming and hacking plans for their voting machines

It may not have been Diebold, but not only did we have the earlier NIE leak, but David Kuo’s book hit the media. Again, given what the hard-core Republican base seems to care about, it’s hard to imagine a better whistle to have been blown.

Last Tuesday didn’t seem to have any obvious effect, but every little bit helps:

(10/10) Call on the Founders, Lady Liberty, Columbia, Justice and the other spirits of America for help

And today:

(10/17) Release the salamanders! (undoing damage of gerrymandering)

What with all the “safe” seats that are in play, we may have more traction on this than we might have hoped weeks or months ago.

Just to be clear, I do not for one nanosecond think that spellwork or prayer is a replacement for voter information, GOTV drives, and other tangible actions. The gods help those who help themselves, to borrow a phrase from our Christian brethren ;-). OTOH, adding spellwork (or prayer) to those efforts can’t hurt, and it has every chance of helping. Even the atheists can join in on this one, by virtue of theories like quantum entanglement ;-).

Info on the next three Tuesdays worth of workings is at the above link, and I’ll try to remember to post here as well.

Specific spell suggestions on releasing salamanders also welcome!

Werewolf Cookie ! (4.00 / 3)

Chomp !

A dark Cave. In the middle, a Caldron boiling. Thunder.

Enter the three Witches.

1 WITCH.  Thrice the brinded cat hath mew’d.
2 WITCH.  Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin’d.
3 WITCH.  Harpier cries:–’tis time! ’tis time!
1 WITCH.  Round about the caldron go;
    In the poison’d entrails throw.–
    Toad, that under cold stone,
    Days and nights has thirty-one;
    Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
    Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot!
ALL.  Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH.  Fillet of a fenny snake,
    In the caldron boil and bake;
    Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
    Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
    Lizard’s leg, and owlet’s wing,–
    For a charm of powerful trouble,
    Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL.  Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
3 WITCH.  Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
    Witches’ mummy; maw and gulf
    Of the ravin’d salt-sea shark;
    Root of hemlock digg’d i the dark;
    Liver of blaspheming Jew;
    Gall of goat, and slips of yew
    Sliver’d in the moon’s eclipse;
    Nose of Turk, and Tartar’s lips;
    Finger of birth-strangled babe
    Ditch-deliver’d by a drab,–
    Make the gruel thick and slab:
    Add thereto a tiger’s chaudron,
    For the ingredients of our caldron.
ALL.  Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH.  Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
    Then the charm is firm and good.

Fook that… (4.00 / 3)

I invoke The Beast!

 Slumbering Beast Stirs (12+ / 0-)

The slumbering beast of the hibernating electorate is stirring.

Slowly, the waking will happen, the creature will rise, sniff the air, feel the hunger from many foodless years, and devour that which lies in its path.

Rise, O Beast, and Feed.

Rise (4.00 / 3)

It was a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils.  With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet.

I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also was a chasing after wind.Ecclesiastes 1:17

You post that (none / 1)

and all I can think about is that Yates poem I posted earlier about the Second Coming…

(with apologies to the master)

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last
slouches toward Washington to be born?
